  2. Overall Purpose/Broad Function:
The main role of the National Program Officer, Fortification will be to work with all the relevant partners in salt fortification to lay the ground work so that quality fortification of food stuffs can be promoted throughout the country.   

  3. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with BITAC, BUET and BSCIC to conduct technical survey of the SIPs.
  • Cooperate with industrial companies in introduction/ renovation of appropriate equipment for improved salt iodization in currently operating plants.
  • Develop training module for factory level use, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of the plants in consultation with consultant.
  • Explore the feasibility of upgrading SIPs in the whole country.
  • Identify some new potential and dynamic salt refiners and provide technical assistance to these selected entrepreneurs to have more coverage.
  • Writing reports, including gathering information on lessons learned and best practices and publishing for the MI.
  • Travel within Bangladesh to monitor results.
  • Organize technical or programmatic workshops as and when required.
  • Explore possibility of double fortification of salt through selected salt refiners and initiate a pilot program on double fortification.
  • Explore for possible funding sources for revenue expansion.
  • Assist the CD to report to donors on results
  • Any other task requested by the CD.

  4. Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • The position will not supervise any staff.

  5. Education/Professional Designations/Experience:
  • A professional degree in medicine, health systems management, nutrition, public health, international development and/or a related field.
  • A good understanding of human nutrition, the role of micronutrients and/or experience in working with the Health Systems would be a plus.
  • Good knowledge of government policies and programs to address nutrition in Bangladesh.
  • At least 10 years of work experience with national and district governments, NGOs, community groups, and/or UN agencies (preferably a combination of experience in at least two of these).

  6. Language Skills
  • Apart from Bangla, fluency in English (reading, writing & oratory skills) is a prerequisite.

  7. Travel Requirements
  • Frequent travel within Bangladesh.

  8. Other Specific Skill Requirements:
  • A result-oriented approach and proven ability to manage and coordinate complex multi-partner programs.
  • Ability to network and negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, especially national and state governments to achieve the objectives of the VAS and zinc supplementation programs.
  • A strong leadership skills and ability to work independently and generate innovation.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written). Ability to effectively represent the program in various fora.
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office programs.
