Job Description / Responsibility:
The BDM will be required to contribute his/her skills energies and knowledge to all aspects of the business practice areas, which may include;
New Business Development
- Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business.
- Cold call as appropriate within your market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities. * Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
- Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
- Research and build relationships with new clients.
- Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/Principals.
- Plan approaches and pitches. * Work with team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
- Participate in pricing the solution/service.
- Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion. * Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
- Present an image that mirrors that of the client.
Client Retention
- Present new concepts and innovative and enhance existing relationships.
- Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
- Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
- Regular networking with local & international clients.
Business Development Planning
- Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
- Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
- Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in revenue.
- Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique value propositions and differentiators.
Management and Research
- Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
- Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM.
- Forecast business trend and ensure they are met by the team.
- Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
- Work to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are fulfilled within a timely manner.
- Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
- Provide business development training and mentoring to the BDU members and other internal staffs as necessary.
- Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company’s people and capabilities.
- Understand the company’s goal and purpose so that will continual to enhance the company’s performance.
Proposal Preparation
- Conduct background research on relevant topics/ projects;
- Develop technical approach and methodology, personnel schedule and workplan part of the project proposal;
- Support proposal design in coordination with partners and World Learning HQ staff;
- Develop technical and cost inputs for the proposal with support from in-house technical experts and the business development team.
Educational Qualification:
- Master’s in Business Administration/ Economics/ development studies or any other relevant subjects from reputed university with good academic record. Degree from abroad will be an advantage.
Experience:
- A sound understanding of international and national development consultancy markets;
- Minimum of 10 years professional experience in Development Consultancy industry with a successful track record working on relevant projects financed by international aid organizations and solid experience with EOIs/proposals preparation for various aid-financed tenders;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, strong negotiation, diplomacy and team work skills;
- Competence in Microsoft Office software, Visio, Web portal, internet search engines and the ability to learn quickly new software packages.

- be creative, innovative and proactive in approach to all projects and proposals;
- ensure that tasks assigned to the senior consultants and other staff reporting to him/her are successfully completed in accordance with agreed terms of reference, timing and budget and high professional standards;
- manage projects to exceed client expectations;
- keep other Directors and management personnel informed of progress and of any significant problems or other developments;
- maintain effective working relationships with client personnel, at all levels, on current projects;
- quickly develop good relationships with key personnel of new and prospective clients;
- ensure that BDU team members are properly briefed on what is expected of them, supervised and supported and given constructive feedback on their performance;
- provide monitoring support and guidance to selected MSL/MSP staff;
- be a good team player who quickly establishes effective working relationships with other MSP staff and freelance consultants with whom he/she comes into contact on projects or other activities;
- be proactive in identifying and pursuing possible project extensions/add-ons and in building on existing client relationships to secure invitations to bid for new work;
- be alert to possible opportunities for other new business opportunities and take appropriate steps to instigate follow up initiatives;
- assigned one relevant person for the project management for every ongoing project of the company including himself/herself and monito their activity;
- Numerate with at least a basic understanding of statistics/econometrics;
- Ability to work effectively in a team and/or independently under stress/pressure.
