Position: Governance and Community Development Officer (GCDO)

Suchana: Ending the Cycle of Malnutrition in Bangladesh project is led by Save the Children with the support of DFID and the EU. The Governance and Community Development Officer (GCDO) will be based at Upazila-level and will be responsible for performing governance and community development related activities. One of the key responsibilities of GCDO is to conduct various type or training programmes for the Suchana field staff, Union Parishad, and government stakeholders and other concerned at the community-, union-, and upazila-level. S/he will also be responsible to implement various activities as part of general awareness and capacity development issues. S/he will work through the respective Field Facilitators (FF) and Suchana Community Mobilizers (SCM) in close coordination with the Union Coordinators (UC).

Job Description / Responsibility

  • Assist Upazila Coordinator in organizing inception workshops at upazila and union level.
  • Extend support to identify most vulnerable villages through union consultation meeting and transect walk as well as provide necessary support at different stages of BHH selection i.e. wealth ranking, HH verification, HH registration etc.
  • Maintain regular and close contact with GoB field staff, notably of health/family planning departments in order to improve nutrition specific services from rendered from them.
  • Support in the intervention contributing to gender and nutrition integration.
  • Revitalize and build capacity of the Upazila Disaster Management Committee and jointly develop the respective disaster preparedness and management plan.
  • Revitalize and build capacity of the Union Disaster Management Committee and jointly develop the respective disaster preparedness and management plan.
  • Provide technical guidance to FF for forming GPUK and VSLA groups.
  • Develop skill of the members and leaders from GPUK and VSLA groups.
  • Develop skill of the UP and its relevant standing committees.
  • Any other task as assigned.

Job Nature:  Full-time

Educational Requirements
Master’s degree preferably in development studies, social science or any other relevant discipline (can be relaxed in case of experienced person).

Experience Requirements
At least three-year experience in community based development activities, notably in nutrition and livelihoods areas.

  • Good communication, Facilitation and motivational skill.
  • Understanding of local cultural languages.
  • Abilities to undertake extensive travel to village level 
  • Effective computer literacy
  • Having problem solving and prompt decision making capacity.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Having non-discriminatory and gender sensitive perception
  • Willingness and ability to drive motorcycle in the field as and when required; Valid driving license is an added advantage

Salary Range:  BDT 25,000/month

Job Location:  Any Upazilla of Moulvibazar District.
