A Dhaka based leading national level NGO engaged in socio-economic development since 1974 invites application from suitable candidates for the positionof Program Officer-School Health and Nutrition for its Save the Children supported Shishuder Jonno Integrated Child Development Program (SJ ICDP) being implemented in urban area of Dhaka.

POSITION: Program Officer - School Health and Nutrition

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Key Area-1:

Program development and delivery:
Support in the development and delivery of the high quality program that contribute to the goal and objectives of the program plan and ensure children inform program design and drive maximum benefit from all activities. This includes:

  • Receive close technical guidance &support from Deputy Program Manager (Health and Nutrition) and provide technical support to field level team members in implementation of School Health & Nutrition (SHN) related activitiesat community, Resource Centers and school level.
  • Ensure program operation in field site/s following integrated approach by integrating School Health & Nutrition initiatives with National Children Task force (NCTF), Basic Education (BE), Adolescent Development (AD)and others relevant  components.
  • Support Deputy Program Manager (Health and Nutrition) in documenting lessons learned and other relevant reports.
  • Provide assistance to strategic partners (Directorate of Primary Education, Directorate of Secondary & Higher Education, Department of Communicable Disease Control under DGHS,Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Dhaka WASA, Primary Waste Collection Service Providers etc.), and maintain partnership.
  • Facilitate children (5- 19 years) receive appropriate health and hygiene services (deworming at Resource Centers and First-Aid services at schools, handwashing at schools &household/community level etc.) from Resource Centers, Primary & Secondary schools andadjacent /nearby health centers (Gov’t/NGO)
  • Organize and conduct training/ orientation and event at school level for developing capacity of teachers, SMC members etc. to ensure First-Aid service at school, handwashing of school children at critical times etc.
  • Follow up session, services, maintain registers  and provide necessary support to field team members
  • Maintain liaison with local government authority(s) and other relevant service providers/NGOs like Dhaka North and South City Corporation , Dhaka Water-supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA), Department of Communicable Disease Control under DGHS, Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Directorate of Primary Education (DPE), Directorate of Secondary & Higher Education, and other local technical partners during project period.
  • Assist to develop module ,IEC materials, checklist , necessary formats etc
  • Contribute to the development of program work plans and ensure effective implementation resulting in children enjoying improved access to health-hygiene and their rights.
  • Contribute  to budget preparation ,monitoring ,revision and reporting
  • Close communication and rapport building with strategic and technical partners.
  • Supervise Resource Centre (RC) including Community Educators-Health and Nutrition, Community Organizers-Health and Nutrition and others supervisee
  • Day to day activity Monitoring and Reporting
  • Capacity Building of assigned field team members (Community Educators-Health and Nutrition and Community Organizers-Health and Nutrition) on different initiatives, strategies of School Health & Nutrition.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, seminars, workshops (at national & international level) as desired by the program and organization.
  • Emphasize and follow up integration with other component of ICDP
  • Ready to work in any natural disaster (like eviction) or any other emergency situation.
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor

Key Area-2:

Reporting, organizational learning and impact:
Ensure that activities are transparent and accountable to children and other stakeholders. This includes

  • Ensure quality implementation of the Program
  • Produce regular reporting on field activities
  • Document program experiences and lessons effectively and sharing with other team members.
  • Assist to prepare periodic programmatic reports in coordination with the team.
  • Prepare necessary reports and documentations like case study in coordination with the team

Managing: Comply with all relevant decision as per Save The Children’s Child Protection Policy

Key Area -4

As Team Player:
Participate actively as a member of program team. This includes:

  • Work with team to review and update the program plan in line with the changing needs of children
  • Contribute to the overall management and achieving goal of project
  • Promote sharing of best practice across the program
  • Undertake duties delegated by the program manager

Key Area-5

External profile:

  • Building key stakeholder relationships with relevant decision makers in government
  • Contribute to policy development and advocacy based experience from the field

Job Nature: Full time

Educational Requirements: Master Degree in any discipline, preferably in Social Science/Public Health or MBBS

Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience in program interventions, preferably with Health & Nutrition program in urban context especially in slums.
  • Age at most 40 years
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Well communication skill in English both verbal & written.
  • S/he is expected to have experience in providing training and capacity building
  • Experience in working with MoH & FW, City Corporation will be an advantage.
  • Should have good skills on facilitation and report writing ability in English
  • Proficiency on computer using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), internet/emailing and ability to type in Bangla and English.

Job Location: Dhaka

Salary: Tk. 36,234/- per month
