Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer
 

A reputed International Engineering Consultancy firm is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer for one of its projects in Bangladesh.

Job Description / Responsibility: The Senior Structural Engineer will be part of a team responsiblefor assessing supplier RMG factories for their structural integrity.

Core Scope and Responsibilities

  • Collect available construction documentation such as As-built drawings, geotechnical report, information on occupancy and usage, etc.
  • Carry out a visual non-intrusive inspection of the factory. The inspection will be carried out by two of our engineers.
  • Identify and record visible structural defects including photographic records. This will include minor defects as well as defects that may require further investigation and possible remedial work. This exercise will consist of observations related to current usage of the facility.
  • Undertake a rapid visual assessment with regards to the expected seismic performance of the buildings inspected.
  • Produce minutes of meeting to record the initial findings of the visual inspection
  • Undertake an office based high level technical review of selected elements of the structures based on available information and areas of concern.
  • Produce a visual inspection report to summarize the findings and advise on recommended remedial works.
  • The Consultant shall carry out building inspections and surveying/directly, at third party factories.

Additional Scope and Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design checks to evaluate Factor of Safety and Live Load capacity.
  • Lead meetings with factory owners and managers in relation to inspection findings and explanation of CAP.
  • Review detailed engineering assessments (“DEAs”) and confirm classification/categorisation. Summarise DEA findings for issuance to Client’s Structural Integrity Programme Manager for review, comment and approval. Once the client has given prior written approval, the Consultant shall share the summary of the DEA to the relevant factory owner and the factory’s management.
  • When requested by Client, lead meetings with factory owners and factory managers in relation to the implementation of action plans under the DEA, and to assess progress thereunder on an on-going basis. The Consultant shall formally record these meetings in the form of draft minutes and agreed actions, and then issue the draft minutes to the Structural Integrity Programme Manager for review, comment and approval, prior to distribution to the relevant factory’s owner and management.
  • Inspect retrofitting/prop installation/remediation works carried out on site and monitor quality and compliance with design drawings.
  • Review and comment on (with the Structural Integrity Programme Manager) the implementation of structural safety improvements. The Consultant shall record such findings formally and submit them to the Structural Integrity Programme Manager for approval, prior to distribution to the relevant factory’s owner and management.
  • Monitor completion of activities in the Corrective Actions Plans and report when final project close out (satisfactory completion of all CAP activities) has been achieved.
  • Present to technical and non-technical individuals, the technical aspects of a project and structural design approach.
  • Highly skilled in design related software: Etabs/Staad Pro and Safe.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements - BSC/Masters in Civil Engineering from any reputed public and private universities (should be accredited by UGC); Must be a member of IAB/IEB & DMIN/CE/BIP.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 14 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 05 years of experience specially in Design or structural Assessment

Job Nature:

  • Contractual (Initially for 12 months)
  • Able to join as soonest possible; ideally from April 2018.

Job Location: Dhaka with frequent travel to field sites

Salary Range: Commensurate with responsibilities and experience
