Research Officer

Schedule (hours/days): 37.5 hours in a week starting from Sunday through Thursday
Location:  Dhaka, Bangladesh

Job Summary                                                                        

Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is hiring a Research Officer – qualitative for a USAID-funded integrated health program focused on capacity strengthening and behavior change in four distinct areas: Nutrition, Family Planning, Tuberculosis, and Maternal and Child Health.

The Qualitative Research Officer will be responsible for designing and implementing all the qualitative research activities planned during the project period, under the guidance of the MEL Advisor and Chief of Party. This position will also look after the selection of research agencies and/or individual consultants for implementation of qualitative research. One of this position’s primary role will be leading the qualitative analysis, both manually and using appropriate software.

The Qualitative Research Officer will report to the MEL Advisor. This position will also assist the MEL advisor in planning, preparing, and implementing all wide variety of qualitative research as well as providing qualitative feedback to the other research activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversee country programs with COP

  • Hiring and management of qualitative research supplier
  • Provide input on research protocols, sample designs and sampling methods for specific qualitative research activities planned for the project
  • Provide input on designing qualitative tools based on the requirements of each qualitative study
  • Provide input for other studies (quantitative and periodic monitoring activities) in preparing of research instruments and research protocols, as needed
  • Work with the MEL Adviser to prepare necessary documentation for obtaining IRB approval as per project requirements
  • Organize training of field personnel in consultation with the project team, including monitoring and supervision of fieldwork (ensuring data validation and quality checks as committed in the proposal) and updating MEL Adviser on the fieldwork progress
  • Orient the research supplier on qualitative data collection as per the specific requirements of the research project
  • Organize trainings of qualitative tools and techniques and data processing as per specific project requirements
  • Ensure accuracy and availability of quality data for qualitative research(s) in the required formats as per project requirements
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis as per requirements
  • Prepare and present qualitative research reports and presentations to the project team, government officials and donors
  • Other duties as necessary, as instructed by supervisor and COP

Desired qualifications and attributes:

Minimum qualifications (mandatory): Post Graduation degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Social Work or any other relevant subject from an accredited university.
 
Preferred qualifications: advanced training on qualitative research, techniques and software

Bangladeshi citizen.
Competent in Microsoft Office, Qualitative Data analysis software and
Other software skills preferred.

Language Skills: Excellent written and oral skills in Bangla and English.
