Junior Faculty, Developing Midwives Project

James P Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH) at BRAC University was established in 2004 as an international educational and research institution focusing on the integral areas of teaching, research, and services. The goal of the School is not only to impart knowledge but also to act as a center of excellence in knowledge creation through research and training that connects with practice. The James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University has been developing competent and compassionate Midwives to improve the maternal and neonatal health in Bangladesh through the 3 years Diploma course at seven Academic Sites, in partnership with six Non-Government Organizations, with support from the Government of Bangladesh since 2012 under the Developing Midwifery Project, funded by the UK government. We are looking for some Junior Faculty for this project.

Job profile
The main role of this position will be to work as a member of technical team and teach the students of Diploma in Midwifery Education Program at Dhaka Urban academic site for quality implementation of the Midwifery Education Program according to the set standards and curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to preparing clinical rotational plan along with fellow Jr. faculty and Instructor for the student’s clinical practice and share with Midwifery Education Team (MET);
• Facilitate liaison with the clinical facilities(hospitals, clinics, medical colleges) along with the clinical team to facilitate clinical training;
• Orient students to the clinical sites with fellows junior faculties, observe students’ interactions with clients and identify gaps in service delivery, evaluate students’ competencies during service delivery;
• Maintain and prepare the skills labs with fellow Jr. faculty for specific session demonstrations and teach students through demonstration based on the session plan and the academic calendar; orient students on ‘formal case presentation format’ and assist them to present the cases with fellow junior faculties;
• Conduct assessment of student’s performance and communicate with fellow junior faculties regarding any student whose performance is unsatisfactory or unsafe,
• Provide supportive assistance to the midwifery students as and when required to help them to understand the subject clearly;
• Work in close collaboration with the Midwifery Education Team (MET);
• Develop modular exam questionnaires including OSCE guideline in close collaboration with fellow faculty and Instructor;
• Check the answer scripts for modular examination and grading;
• Strengthen the capacity of preceptors with fellow faculty both at academic site and clinical facilities and ensure their compliance with the set curriculum standards;
• Monitor for ensuring strict adherence to the academic calendar and fulfillment of set standards;
• Develop individual clinical skills & competency as a part of continuous development and conduct classroom teaching related to simulation practice/skills;
• Conduct other activities as and when assigned by the Supervisors.

Requirement

• Post Basic B.Sc/ B.Sc in Nursing-Midwifery or Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery
• Must be registered and licensed under BNMC
• At-least three years’ experience in maternal and newborn health with 2 years teaching experience
• At least 20 deliveries conducted
• Good communication skills
• Proficiency in English
