Faculty, Developing Midwives Project

BRAC James  P  Grant  School  of  Public  Health  (JPGSPH)  at  BRAC  University  was  established  in  2004  as  an  international educational and research institution focusing on the integral areas of teaching, research, and services. The goal of the School is not only to impart knowledge but also to act as a center of excellence in knowledge creation through research and training that connects with practice. The BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University has been developing competent and compassionate Midwives to improve the maternal and neonatal health in Bangladesh through the 3 years Diploma course at seven Academic Sites, with support from the Government of Bangladesh since 2012 under the Developing Midwifery Project, funded by the UK government. We are looking for some Faculty for this project.

Job profile

The main role of this position will be to work as a member of technical team and teach the students of Diploma in Midwifery Education Program at Dhaka Urban academic site for quality implementation of the Midwifery Education Program according to the set standards and curriculum. This position will closely facilitate and observe the quality of practice at the clinical practice site, clinic and hospital or in any other settings.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a part of  the Midwifery Education Team (MET);
  • Facilitate liaison with the clinical facilities (hospitals, clinics, medical colleges) to assist clinical training;
  • Orient students to the clinical sites , interactions with clients and identify gaps in service delivery, evaluate students’ competencies during service delivery;
  • Accompany students to the clinic/hospitals when they are placed for clinical practices for midwifery practice. This placement includes night shift;
  • Build the skills of the students in terms of normal vaginal delivery;
  • Maintain and prepare the skill labs for specific session demonstrations and teach students based on the lesson plan and the academic calendar;
  • Orient students on ‘formal case presentation format’ and assist them to present the cases with fellow instructors;
  • Conduct assessment of student’s performance and communicate with fellow faculty regarding unsatisfactory or unsafe performance of the students;,
  • Develop modular exam questionnaires including OSCE guideline in close collaboration with fellow faculty;
  • Check the answer scripts for modular examination and grading;
  • Monitor for ensuring strict adherence to the academic calendar and fulfillment of set standards;
  • Develop individual clinical skills & competency as a part of continuous development and conduct classroom teaching related to simulation practice/skills;
  • Provide supportive assistance to the midwifery students as and when required to help them to understand the subject clearly;
  • Assist fellow faculty in ensuring the proper use of clinical and skill lab facilities;
  • Conduct other activities as and when assigned by the Supervisors.

Requirement

  • Post Basic BSc/ BSc in Nursing
  • Must be registered and licensed under BNMC
  • At-least three years’ experience in maternal and newborn health with 2 years teaching experience
  • At least 40 deliveries conducted
  • Wiling to visit slum areas and work at night shift with students as and when required
  • Good communication skills
  • Proficiency in English
