Project Assistant (Wildlife Biologist)

IUCN is seeking a qualified individual to join in Bangladesh Country Office.

IUCN Bangladesh in close collaboration with Bangladesh Forest Department has taken initiative on White-rumped Vulture (Gyps bengalensis) conservation in Bangladesh: Establishment of toxic drug free Vulture Safe Zones (VSZ) and Monitoring of the Population trend. The World Bank - Dhaka is supporting this project. The goal of the project is “an institutional mechanism is working towards a toxic drug free zone for White-rumped Vulture in Bangladesh”. The main objective of the project is to establish a sustainable Vulture population in the country by preventing the decline of the population through establishing a number of Vulture Safe Zones (VSZs) across the country. These VSZs will be free from Diclofenac and other untested veterinary drugs and will have adequate number of trees suitable for vultures to nest.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Assist in the implementation of activities according to the project’s annual, quarterly and monthly work plans
  • Assist in conducting population survey of vulture, Vulture Nest monitoring
  • Conduct bimonthly meeting of Vulture Conservation Team (VCT) in Vulture Safe Zone Areas
  • Assist Principal Investigator and other experts to organize meetings and workshops;
  • Provide logistic and technical support to local community and project unit
  • Assist experts in drafting monthly, quarterly and special reports on ongoing activities;
  • Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned as and when deemed necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Public Administration.
  • At least 3 years' professional experience in relevant fields. Experience in social mobilization, conservation communication, participatory / co-management, Vulture safe zone management, related initiatives are preferred.
  • Good presentation, writing and spoken communication skills in English are essential.
