Project Assistant (Database Management) –
Fish, Crustacea and Butterfly

IUCN is seeking a qualified individual to join in Bangladesh Country Office.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ is widely recognized as the most comprehensive, objective global approach for evaluating the conservation status of plant and animal species. This study will update Red List for 7 groups of wildlife (Mammal, Reptile, Amphibians, Aves, Freshwater Fish, Crustacean and Butterfly), approximately, 1700 species in all. The goal of The IUCN Red List is “to provide information and analyses on the status, trends and threats to species in order to inform and catalyze action for biodiversity conservation”. Under the guidance of the Country Representative and Programme Coordinator, IUCN Bangladesh and the Project Manager, Updating Species Red List of Bangladesh; this position is responsible for providing necessary technical and logistic assistance for smooth implementation of the project in general and manage a database on fish, crustacean and butterfly of the project in specific.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters in Zoology, Fisheries, Marine Science and Natural Resources Management with professional experience in data entry, database management and data analysis.
  • 2 years of professional experience.
  • Professional level of knowledge in English.
  • Species list update and data compilation;
  • Uploading information on SIS;
  • Maintain and update National Biodiversity Database (NBD) to be developed under the project;
  • Generate computer generated reports as per requirement of the project;
  • Assist in designing and developing National Biodiversity Database (NBD) to be developed under the project;
  • Assist project team in organizing assessment and evaluation meetings and workshops;
  • Undertake field visit and survey as per requirement;
  • Provide support to publish books, video and posters and other communication materials on Red List and threatened species of the country;
  • Undertake any other tasks that may be assigned as and when deemed necessary.
