About IRRI

IRRI’s research is being done under the framework of the CGIAR Research Program on Rice, also known as the CGIAR Research Program on Rice Agri-food Systems (or RICE), which the Institute leads.
Job Purpose
Plan and implement routine experiments, data collection and analysis and other research activities related to Geographic Information Science to support project goals for the Organizational Unit’s research objectives. Proactively provide support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of the study. Contribute to the preparation of research outputs, databases and other processes related to the research project.
Roles and Responsibilities
Purpose
- Plan and implement data collection and analysis and other research activities related to Geographic Information Science to support project goals for the Organizational Unit’s research objectives
- Collect, process and analyze data using appropriate spatial and attribute data analysis from Geographic Information Science research and activities
- Contribute to the maintenance of the research data and metadata and technical equipment
Engagement
- Proactively provide support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of the study
- Coordinate with different collaborating partners to ensure that the research objectives are properly met
- Plan the support/manpower needed and set up work schedule
- Provide feedback to the work of research technicians and contract workers to ensure that the research activities are implemented according to the plan and standards
- Serve as the primary point of information for easier coordination of training programs
Delivery
- Contribute to the preparation of research outputs, databases and other processes related to the research project
- Contribute to the writing of manuscripts and articles for annual reports and publications in refereed journals as well as presentations and posters to be used in national and international conferences
- Provide appropriate data and information, maintain and update database for storage and easy retrieval of information
Perform other relevant tasks assigned by supervisor from time to time
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Agriculture or other related science
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in Geography, Statistics, Economics and Environmental Science
Skills Required
- Skilled in GIS software and working experience with GIS data (spatial & attribute)
- Has proven technical proficiency in conducting data collection
- Has strong data skills in Q&A, Q&C, analysis
- Report writing and contribute to scientific publications
- Strong communication skills (verbal and writing)
Salary and Benefits:
- Base salary ranges: 35055 - 65100 BDT per Month
Other benefits: Housing Allowance: 30% of base pay per month, Transport Allowance: 12000 BDT, Festival Bonus: 2 times each year, Retirement Fund, Returning Mother Allowance: BDT-1,000 per month for 9 months to female employees post-delivery of a baby to support return to the workplace, Medical insurance coverage: maximum US$16,000/year and other admissible benefits |
