The Challenge TB (CTB) Project is the flagship global initiative for implementing USAID’s TB strategy and is being implemented in 22 countries including Bangladesh by a unique coalition of nine international organizations in TB control.  The CTB is being implemented in Bangladesh since 2014 and providing technical assistance to the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of Bangladesh (GoB). The current focus of the initiative is to lay strong ground for the Zero TB Cities Initiative recently launched by the MoHFW. As part of its urban focused activities, CTB is looking for a Medical Assistant.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title : Medical Assistant  
Reports to : Field Supervisor
Job Location : Dhaka, Bangladesh

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position holder will have responsibility of collecting and carry out clinical data and biological samples, Household visiting, Specimen preservation in appropriate environment etc. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below: To screen patients through android mobile phone software at designated doctors chamber, clinic, hospital or field sites.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Start verbal screening of children in the waiting area of the health facilities as soon as they arrive.
  • Screen at least 70 child per day. If the volume of the OPD/waiting area is not sufficient, outreach and other screening strategies should be employed to meet screening targets.
  • Fill the Suspect Form on the phone, once a suspect is identified.
  • Make a Test Order Card and hand it to the suspect.
  • Make sure that the physician has returned the Test Order Card to the suspect at the end of an appointment with tests clearly marked.
  • Fill out the Test Referral Form on the phone.
  • Give the suspect a map for the Diagnostic facility and give directions- Offer his/her phone number to the suspect, in case the suspect cannot find the Diagnostic facility.
  • Be sure to answer any questions that the suspect/parent may have about the Screening and Diagnostic Process.
  • Team Support: Maintain good liaison with the workforce of the community; Share experience and learning within the team in order to improve the productivity of the team.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):

Required Qualification:

  • HSC or equivalent degrees from Madrasah Education Board.

Required Experience:

  • Have proper knowledge of precautions in handling infectious biological samples such as sputum, blood, tissue etc.
  • Should possess skills to motivate participants and their relatives for successful completion of the project.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently.
