General Functions:

Under the direct supervision of Sector Coordinator and overall guidance of the Head of Sub-Office in Cox’s Bazar, the successful candidate will closely monitor the activities of Sector partners to ensure that they are implementing in accordance with the strategy and guidelines set out by the Sector.

The objective of the role of the SSA is to assist the Sector Coordination Team in 5 main areas:

  • Contribute to formulation of shelter strategy and related documents.
  • Coordination of Sector partners (particular national NGOs) and collaboration with government counterparts.
  • Inter-Sector coordination
  • Field based coordination, assessments and monitoring
  • Preparation of updates, reports & support to technical working groups (TWiGs) – will work closely with the Sector Information Manager.

The incumbent will be assigned to the following tasks:

  • Support Coordination formally at the regular meetings and informally through regular contact with sector partners and Government institutions.
  • Compile regular reports about responses and contribute to gap analysis
  • All achievements are documented.
  • Forming collaborative working relationships with national NGOs and Government bodies to better promote coordination, the role and outputs of the Sector.
  • Carrying out field visits with Sector partners to support assessments, technical inter-sector missions and post distribution/implementation monitoring.
  • Contributing to development of shelter strategy, standard operating procedures, technical documents, and reports.
  • Providing support and advice on technical matters, including shelter and NFIs
  • Preparing regular updates about responses and contribute to gap analysis so as to promote resource allocation by Sector partners.
  • Making recommendations on how the Sector can improve its outreach and effectiveness.
  • Compile information and prepare related technical assessments, reviews and reports.
  • Perform any other task requested by the Coordinator.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • University Degree in architecture, civil/structural engineering or other related field;
  • At least 2 years’ relevant work experience in the related field, including collaboration with different international organizations (e.g. UN agencies, Red Cross Movement, INGOs, IOs or Donors), private sector or government bodies.
  • Experience in inter-agency coordination.
  • Good knowledge of Bangladesh emergency context, the principal humanitarian actors and government bodies.
  • Capacity to work within a multi-cultural team to ensure that relevant issues related to the cluster coordination are well communicated and understood
  • Ability to go on field visits and technical missions.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • Excellent working knowledge of Bangla and English (written and oral) is essential.
