General Functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Unit Head and the direct supervision of the WASH Officer, the incumbent will be required to work towards the improvement of hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities effectiveness, particularly as part of the WASH intervention, to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services; ensuring appropriate targeted community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities and training on gender related issues.

The incumbent will be assigned to the following tasks:

  • Disseminate appropriate messages to promote hygiene best practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services amongst targeted communities ensuring that hygiene and health messages are disseminated with participatory interventions, allowing ownership and empowerment of the beneficiaries to influence their hygiene and health.
  • Lead a team of volunteers from the beneficiary community to undertake hygiene promotion activities such as house to house visits, awareness sessions, hygiene campaigns, etc.
  • Support the Project Assistants and Project Engineers in mobilizing the communities to mitigate priority water and sanitation related health risks, promoting the BCC strategy and keeping records of the community volunteers participating in HP activities.
  • Contribute in the mobilization of the beneficiary community to participate actively in the promotion of hygiene and empower them to take responsibility of their hygiene and the maintenance of the WASH infrastructure provided.
  • Support partner’s field staff in the delivery of effective community awareness programs including adoption of best practices and proven approaches.
  • Support the Project Assistants in the designing and implementation of the distribution of the hygiene kits.
  • Provide a weekly activity progress report to the Project Assistant, Hygiene, highlighting achievements versus targets.
  • Undertake regular field visits to project sites to monitor progress of activities and provide regular feedback on field trip as required. Take part in community meetings organized by NGO partner and relevant stakeholders.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Unit Head, WASH Officer, Project Engineer and Project Assistant.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • A High school diploma or a combination of equivalent training and practical experience;
  • At least 02 years’ relevant experience in the field of community mobilization and public health in community-based projects
  • Previous experience with international and local NGOs is an added advantage.
