The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (The Federation) is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. The Federation has been working with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for more than 30 years in humanitarian fields mainly disaster response and management, cyclone preparedness, disaster relief and recovery, community based disaster preparedness, risk reduction and mitigation, etc. The British Red Cross (BRC) works under the auspices of the Federation in Bangladesh in close cooperation with the BDRCS.

The BRC has a long history of working closely with and supporting the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.  In line with the national society’s strategic plan the BRC have agreed to expand the number of projects over the coming years. On this basis we are seeking to employ a suitably qualified Driver.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To serve as the office driver for official staff travel within Dhaka,and occasionally to districts outside Dhaka as and when required;
  • On a daily basis,monitor the vehicle condition,repair need sand travel log books,and perform checks before operating the vehicle and inform the Manager of any technical problems that existin the assigned vehicle; update log books and maintain clear cut records of the vehicle movements,obtain signatures from the relevant users and indicate the route which the vehicle was used;
  • Beup-to-date on driving regulations in Bangladesh and follow changes that occur;
  • Ensure at the vehicles road worthy,insured,and meets the official requirement sand documentation o fthe Bangladesh Road &Transport Authority;
  • Monitor the routine travel requests made by BRC staff and visitors;
  • To transport passengers and cargo safely and as instructed;
  • Ensure that ALL occupants (including driver) of the vehicle are wearing safety belts;
  • Accountable for the proper use and security of Federation vehicles and the equipment (jack, tools etc.) assigned to the vehicle;
  • Performance of daily inspections according to the Standard form for inspection for vehicles assigned;
  • Understand and obey all traffic laws and regulations;
  • Compliance with working hours regulated. Drivers are recommended to work in accordance with the operational needs;
  • At all times are in possession of valid driving license;
  • Advise the supervisor or the assigned officer of needed service and maintenance of the assigned vehicle 3 days in advance;
  • Provide support to the office administrative functions, which include undertaking messenger tasks, clerical duties, purchasing office support bills, office upkeep/maintenance, photocopying, banking duties, following up visa matters with the relevant clients/ministries and support in hauling supplies / materials for programs and office operations;
  • Ensure that all office equipment (e.g. photocopy and fax machines) is in good working order. Any technical problems with the equipment reported to the Office Manager immediately;
  • Work under the general supervision of the Office Manager and in close coordination with other drivers in the team;
  • Work towards the achievement of Federation goals in the country region of operation through effective managerial and lateral relations and teamwork;
  • Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities;
  • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor;
  • Carry out any other tasks as directed by the Supervisor/Line Manager.
