Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Dhaka office, seeks to employ a qualified candidate to serve as Field Survey Coordinator for its newly launched project - the Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program (IFPRP) - for one year, fixed-term, renewable appointment. The position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the incumbent will report to the Project Leader. Grade level will be decided based on the experience and expertise of the candidate.
The Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program aims to: 1) identify gaps and offer solutions for the development of an evidence-based policy framework to enhance the efficiency and performance of the country’s grain reserves and overall food systems; and (2) strengthen the institutional capacity in policy and strategic decision making of the relevant agencies within the Ministry of Food of the Bangladesh government.
The incumbent is expected to work under the supervision of the Project Leader and will be responsible for assisting all aspects of the project’s field survey and data collection activities. The specific duties will include, but not limited to:
- Facilitate overall preparations for survey activities (including preliminary and exploratory assessments, sampling frame identification, liaising with relevant authorities at different levels, arranging transport, payments for enumerators, and other logistics, etc);
- Assist preparing and pre-testing survey questionnaires and other data collection instruments;
- Participate in enumerator training;
- Coordinate the attendance of enumerators, proper implementation of survey activities, and timely collection of survey questionnaires;
- Coordinate and assist data entry and data management;
- Prepare report on surveys and other field activities; and
- Perform other duties and tasks as deemed necessary.
Qualifications:
- BSc degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Statistics, Information Technology or a related field;
- Work experience in a research, academic and development environment;
- Previous experience on data collection, needs assessments and surveys (participative survey, focus group, interviews);
- Good computer skill (MS word and Excel);
- Fluent in communicating in English and Bengali;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, managerial and leadership skills, and ability to create effective working relations with staff and other stakeholders.
