Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Dhaka office, seeks to hire a qualified candidates to serve as the Communications Specialist for its newly launched project, the Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program (IFPRP). It is a one year, fixed-term, renewable appointment. The grade level, and associated remunerations, will be determined be decided based on experience and expertise of the candidates.

The Bangladesh Integrated Food Policy Research Program aims to: 1) identify gaps and offer solutions for the development of an evidence-based policy framework to enhance the efficiency and performance of the country’s grain reserves and overall food systems; and (2) strengthen the institutional capacity in policy and strategic decision making of the relevant agencies within the Ministry of Food of the Bangladesh government.

The incumbent is expected to work under the supervision of the Project Leader and will be responsible for all aspects of the project’s communications functions. The specific duties will include:

  • Develop and promote communications products (such as policy briefs, visual displays, brochures, and website content) based on the IFPRP research in Bangladesh.
  • Produce a newsletter on a regular interval.
  • Organize and manage seminars, workshops, and conferences in a regular manner.
  • Coordinate closely with the colleagues in the Communications Division at the IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC.
  • Work with the IFPRI media relations team and in accordance with its methodologies, promote and secure media coverage of collaborative IFPRI research in Bangladesh.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the management.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least Master’s degree in journalism, communications, English literature, or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in communication of public policy  and other contemporary issues.
  • Familiarity with issues related to poverty, economic growth, food security, social protection, health, nutrition, gender, and agricultural or rural development in Bangladesh.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team; demonstrated interpersonal skills.
