IFES invites applications for the following position:

Senior Legal Specialist

Based in Dhaka; Open to Bangladesh nationals only. The position is a short-term contract (2 months) with the possibility of an extension or employment.  

Responsibilities:

• Serve as IFES Bangladesh specialist on legal provisions pertaining to elections in the Constitution, election laws, rules, regulations and procedures;
• Provide research, legal analysis, advice and written and verbal presentations on legal and electoral matters as requested by the Chief of Party;
• Support other IFES activities such as assisting technical advisors working on reform of campaign finance and electoral dispute resolution;
• As directed by Chief of Party, draft model legislation, regulations and procedures for consideration by relevant stakeholders in coordination with international experts; and,
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Chief of Party.

Requirements:

• Law Degree;
• Minimum 8 years of relevant legal work experience - preference will be given to individuals with experience in working with the law as it pertaining to elections, familiarity with court proceedings in Bangladesh, or experience with judiciary and/or rule of law programs;
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Bangla required;
• High level of self-motivation and ability to work autonomously within a fast-paced environment;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be competent in use of Microsoft Office applications; and
• Willingness to travel outside of Dhaka on occasion
