Technical Lead

iDE is an international NGO with over 35 years of experience in designing and delivering market based anti-poverty programs in 11 countries. We are a world leader in making markets work for the poor as well as the longest established market development specialist NGO in Bangladesh. iDE believes that markets can be a powerful force for improving smallholder prosperity by creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households. iDE Bangladesh currently has eight projects in Agricultural Markets, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Access to Finance with a focus on women’s economic empowerment and climate-smart technologies.

iDE Bangladesh is looking for skilled and ambitious professional to lead iDE’s component in the recently initiated Five years Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity (BNA) project. The goal of BNA is to contribute to improvements in the nutrition outcomes for children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls in the Feed the Future (FtF) Zone of Influence (ZOI) by: (1) increasing consumption of nutritious, diverse, and safe diets by rural households; (2) increasing social and economic empowerment of girls and women; and (3) improving adoption of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. BNA will implement nutrition-sensitive interventions that complement and reinforce ongoing nutrition-specific activities. iDE is part of BNA consortium and this position will be seconded to BNA team in Bangladesh representing iDE.

The position will lead the implementation of a broad range of WASH activities (collectively known as Result 3 activities) and will provide the project with overall vision, leadership, and guidance – internally with project staff and externally with consortium partners, donors, the Government of Bangladesh, and stakeholders. Moreover, the Team Leader will assume principal responsibility for overall project management and technical operations to ensure that project tasks are completed and objectives met. This position will be directly responsible for managing and supervising field operations (led by iDE Field Team Leader/s and a wider group of specialists of around 15 staff members). The Team Leader will work in close collaboration with BNA Chief of Party as well as technical leads of other consortia members and will be supported by iDE Operations and Programs teams. At the operational level He/she will have to lead the field team, guide partners and assist in developing the project DIP, develop the budget and project implementation strategies, develop technical papers and tools for smooth field implementation, project progress monitoring and proposed changes that is required for quality field implementation. Whilst, at the strategic level, the Team Leader must also ensure quality engagement of human resource according to the project’s requirement; facilitate staff capacity building process, initiate project startup, smooth closing initiatives and play a leadership role in project management.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership to the project
  • Function as supervisor for Field Team Leaders and Project Technical Specialists
  • Directly support consortium for the implementation of the project
  • Play a leading role in the delivery of project outcomes and expected results accordance to project strategy which provides a framework for rural economic and service market;
  • Play an active role and coordinate with relevant technical units in planning and provide programmatic guidance for the project staff, partners, and other stakeholders according to project guidelines and donor requirements;
  • Provide strategic direction and support field team, partners and private sectors in operating project interventions as per plan and adopt relevant changes considering local situations;
  • Monitor progress of field teams and provide regular updates to the senior management team and lead partner to deliver high quality and measurable outcomes
Education
  • Relevant post graduate qualification preferably in business, development studies, management, agriculture and/or equivalent experience
Work Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience working in international development
  • Proven leadership in the administration of similar activities with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting.
  • Experience working with international donors
  • Familiarity and experience with project management concepts such as Logical
  • Frameworks, Impact Logic or Results Chains
  • Considerable understanding of rural markets, trading relationships, and rural service provision. Knowledge on the roles of the private sector, government and civil society/NGOs in creating an effective service market;
  • Experience of value chain approaches to market development and sub-sector analysis
Management and Programmatic Skills
  • Ability to responsibly manage funds, monitoring and team progress
  • Ability to plan and implemented iterative field level activities for market systems change (looking beyond the DIP)
  • Understands the facilitative role of the market development approach

  • Undertake additional tasks subject to workload and skill sets such as photography, cross-project trainings and evaluations

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and the internet
  • Familiarity with internet based software systems such as Google Apps
Other Information and Conditions
  • The position would be the regular employment of iDE in Bangladesh
  • The remuneration package, work days and deliverables might be change based on negotiation between iDE management and the contract
  • iDE reserves the right to terminate this agreement any time with the consultation of the employee as per HR policy
  • Ensure Mandates and Code of Conduct. As a TL under Operation Directorate, it is duty and accountability of the tl to ensure the confidentiality of certain issues. The TL must maintain full confidentiality for sharing information, documents and others issues with others.
