In Bangladesh, iDE has been working since 1984, registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau (NGO AB), registration number 173 dated 27th April, 1984. iDE is currently working in 27 Districts and 123 Upazilas on a wide variety of thematic areas including Food Security, Nutrition, WASH, Agriculture, Market Systems Development, Women Economic Empowerment. iDE Bangladesh is supported by USAID, SIDA, Unicef, DFID, the European Commission and other multilateral donors working in in the country.

The Technical Specialist - Private Sector Engagement (PSE) is responsible to support the project team to develop sustainable supply chain for sanitation products and services by engaging directly with private sector actors (PSAs) at local, regional and national level. His/Her core responsibilities will include manage relationships with the private sector actors, capacity building, strategy development, technical support to develop a sustainable supply chain, and knowledge management in the respective areas. Stationed at Dhaka, he will directly work with the field team to support smooth implementation of PSE related activities.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Technical Lead, coordinate all the project activities
  • Take lead in ensuring effective planning, budgeting and implementation of activities and achievement of results in the relevant sector and overall project
  • Build and nurture strategic partnership with key public and private sector stakeholders in the sector
  • Facilitates knowledge building and management for and from project implementation
  • Ensure the application of iDE’s WASH market system approach and closely work with market actors specific to selected value chains and business groups/actors
  • Engage directly with private sector firms in the WASH market to strength supply chains, encourage effective market strategies and reach rural WASH consumers.
  • Serve as the client relationship focal point for private sector actors
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • Identify and set-up agreements with relevant PSAs related to input, output and service markets to support the business initiatives of sanitation entrepreneurs;
  • Ensure the successful commercialization of selected WASH technologies in the project by setting up the supply chain and working with the field team to raise awareness among consumers;
Education
  • Masters degree in Business Administration (Marketing/Management), Agricultural Science, Social Science, Agro-Economics or Development Studies.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 5 (five) years work experience in relevant field with private sector and market development organizations
  • S/he must have excellent networking skills resulting in deals between farmers, Farm Business Groups, Private Sector Actors (PSAs), and public sector actors
  • Strong in relationship management between farmer organizations and PSAs
  • Should have excellent understanding of rural markets, trading relationships and rural service providers
  • Prior experience in WASH sector preferred
  • Prior experience of engaging and formalizing partnership with national level private sector actors.
  • Experience in conceptualizing and creating strategic marketing and communication solutions
Management and Programmatic Skills
  • Ability to responsibly manage funds, monitoring and team progress
  • Ability to plan and implemented iterative field level activities for market systems change (looking beyond the DIP)
  • Understands the facilitative role of the market development approach

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to work with various national and international team members and flexibility to adapt to different work conditions
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a broad range of public and private sector and NGO partners
Physical and Language Skills
  • Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural contexts
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Bangla, including ability to present coherent and convincing messages to different audiences
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, email and the internet
  • Familiarity with internet based software systems such as Google App
  • Excellent presentation design skills with visual graphic for targeted audiences
Other Information and Conditions
  • The position would be the regular employment of iDE-B
  • The remuneration package, work days and deliverables might be change based on negotiation between iDE management and the contract
  • iDE reserves the right to terminate this agreement any time with the consultation of the employee as per HR policy
