In Bangladesh, iDE has been working since 1984, registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau (NGO AB), registration number 173 dated 27th April, 1984. iDE is currently working in 27 Districts and 123 Upazilas on a wide variety of thematic areas including Food Security, Nutrition, WASH, Agriculture, Market Systems Development, Women Economic Empowerment. iDE Bangladesh is supported by USAID, SIDA, UNICEF, DFID, the European Commission and other multilateral donors working in in the country.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Function as Market Development Officer on all project activities within an assigned district, under supervision of the Field Team Leader
  • Regularly check-in with all stakeholders for whom the MDO is a primary point of contact (PCO) for rapport building and market strengthening
  • Assist Field Team Leader and technical experts to manage and operating all the field level activities of the project
  • Communicate all the relevant stakeholders of the project for the better implementation of the project
  • Follow the work plan and central instruction and perform accordingly to achieve the project goal
  • Prepare event, monthly, quarterly and all necessary reports and assist FTL for preparing the final report.
  • Maintain close contact and communication for project planning, strategy formulation and other issues with supervisor and partners, counterparts, service providers, government, private sector and project participants
  • Carry out responsibilities in financial management and administration at the local level and ensure the efficient use and maintenance of the project resources in consultation with supervisor
Programmatic Responsibilities
  • Implement a variety of market linkage, supply chain, technology introduction and business development activities related to water and sanitation
  • Assess and improve skills and competencies of WASH related entrepreneurs (latrine producers) and businesses on a diverse range of business skills such as financial literacy, marketing, supply chain linkages, public sector linkages, and technical capacity, etc
  • Build rapport and trust with WASH entrepreneurs for effective communication and linkage development
  • Co-facilitate WASH product demand creation activities with WASH related entrepreneurs
  • Identify potential market actors, wash entrepreneurs, dealers, retailers, lead firms
  • Facilitate wash entrepreneurs for product introduction and commercialization
  • Ensuring the successful commercialization of selected WASH technologies
  • Facilitate the development of business plans by the wash entrepreneurs
  • Assess and improve skills & competencies of wash entrepreneurs on a diverse range of business skills like finance, business planning, quality management, human resource management, etc.
  • Work together with the wash entrepreneurs to ensure linkage of the WASH Value Chain Actor
  • Facilitate wash entrepreneurs to establish and maintain business networks at upazila levels and linked with wider area like District, Regional & National level to build profitable business relationships between wash entrepreneurs and others PSAs.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Engineering or another relevant field
Work Experience
  • At least 4 years of experience working on market system development in sanitation or another relevant field
  • Familiarity and experience with project management concepts such as Logical Frameworks, Impact Logic or Results Chains
  • Considerable understanding and knowledge of rural markets, trading relationships and rural service provision
  • Previous experience in private sector preferable
  • Experience in business planning with WASH Service
  • Strong in financial skills (e.g. profit & loss statements, cash flow statements, balance sheets)
  • Must understand the technical, social, and other constraints in the development field
Programmatic Skills
  • Ability to responsibly manage district level funds, monitoring and team progress
  • Ability to plan and implemented iterative field level activities for market systems change (looking beyond the DIP)
  • Understands the facilitative role and local market development approach
  • Experience of value chain approaches, market development and deep dive research

  • Physical fitness required for frequent field visits and extensive travel.
  • Written and oral communication skills in English, including ability to present coherent and convincing messages to different audiences
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and the internet
  • Familiarity with internet based software systems such as Google Apps
Other Information and Conditions
  • The position would be the regular employment of iDE-B
  • The remuneration package, work days and deliverables might be change based on negotiation among iDE management and the contract
  • iDE reserve rights to terminate this agreement any time with the consultation of the employee as per HR policy.
