The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it employs some 12,000 people in 80 countries; it is financed mainly by voluntary donations from governments and from national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. The ICRC delegation in Dhaka is now looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated person for the following position

Position : Cash & Market Specialist
Department : Economic Security
Location : Cox’s Bazar
Starting date : As soon as possible

Main Responsibilities 

  • Supports Economic Security Delegate in implementation of the microcredit component
  • Comprehends the scope and mission of each assigned microfinance project before initializing activities to support it
  • Conducts market survey in desired areas and compiles facts and figures in appropriate reports
  • Develops metric for awareness creation and mobilization of the project and ensures that correlating activities are carried out
  • Cooperates with a financial service provider and handles microfinance project activities and monitors it on a constant basis
  • Conducts regular internal audits and review and consolidates accounting books
  • Handles the overall coordination, technical support and implementation of the microcredit and cooperative development components of each project
  • Monitors the status of each project, including affected communities and their access to revolving fund and microcredits
  • Supports the development and usage of microcredit in designated areas, identified by the project scope
  • Identifies and implements partners, their capacity building and training needs as they correlate with microcredit, if needed
  • Monitors loan disbursement to identified communities (beneficiaries) in a time-efficient manner and supports service provider that loan payments are made timely as well
  • Puts in place mechanisms of managing arrears to ensure a healthy lifetime at all times
  • Creates and submits periodic reports to communicate project status to the management and financers
  • Performs other tasks, as assigned

Personal Attributes and Skills Required

  • Ability to work independently, with the capacity to take initiative as and when appropriate
  • Sound analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure; and being flexible, open to extra working hours if necessary
  • Adaptability and capacity to integrate changes and to deal with a huge volume of work

Professional requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate program required; MBA, MPA, Finance or similar advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in microcredit (microfinance) project, bank or microfinance institution as a credit officer, compliance officer, internal auditor or in similar position
  • Experience in planning and managing projects and applying effective project management methods and best practices - Preferred
  • Experience in managing research and/or M&E projects - Preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Bangla, English
  • Strong proficiency in MSFT Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Strong research and analytical skills
