ICDDR,B Employees' Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (IEMCS Ltd.) is a society of around 2600 current and retired staff members of icddr,b which was established in the year 1972 with the approval from Registrar of Cooperative Directorate, Government of Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh. It has been contributing a lot for the upliftment of the economic conditions of its members by doing different economic activities which include sanction of loan with a simple interest rate, distributing dividends from the earnings of transport service, printing, land development and sale, production of oral rehydration solution: a live saving solution etc. The current capital of the organization is around eighty crore.

IEMCS Ltd. invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The appointment will be made on a regular basis initially for one year, which may be extended for further period depending on satisfactory performance.

Job Location: Dhaka.

Job-Nature: Full-time (40 hours/week; Sunday-Thursday; 10:30 am -7:00 pm).

Salary: Negotiable.

Job profile: Key areas for accountability of this position:

As a member of the senior leadership team, contribute to:

  • Strategic development and delivery of innovative business ideas in both Pharma and EMCS Ltd. contexts, in line with the IEMCS group mandate, strategy and theory of change.
  • Collaboration with local GoB authority to deliver any business and advocacy, in line with the strategies, operational plans, budgets and shareholders requirements that results in significant impact for the increase of the wealth of the shareholder.  
  • Sharing of lessons learned with colleagues in other co-operative societies and same nature of business organizations and collaborate the icddr,b management.
  • Supporting the development  of an organizational culture that reflects our dual mandate values, promotes accountability, and high performance nad frees up our shareholders to deliver outstanding results for the organization and excellent service of stakeholders, establish good relationship among the shareholder’s/members and also relationship between staff and members.

Deliver transformational change in-organization, including:

  • Developing and delivering improved outcomes for the shareholders through delivery of the EMCS group business strategy and initiatives and growth targets as set for the group, variance analysis with these targets.
  • Ensuring that the operating model for the group is optimal in regards to the economy of the Bangladesh country.
  • Engaging staff, members, suppliers, and other stakeholders to create real shared ownership and collaboration for expanding  business and  growth of shareholders wealth.
  • Ensuring strong collaborative relations with the icddr,b management and supported to grow and local Gov. entities.
  • Creating and environment of continuous learning, where staffs are encouraged and supported to grow and develop and are willing to be held accountable for their commitments.
  • Advises the Managing Committee or Board of Director(s)
  • Advocates/promotes organization and stakeholder change related to organization mission
  • Supports motivation of employees in organization products/programs and operations
  • Ensures staff and Managing Committee/ Board of Director(s) have sufficient and up-to-date information
  • Looks to the future for change opportunities
  • Interfaces between Managing Committee/ Board of Director(s) and employees
  • Interfaces between organization and general share holders/members
  • Formulates policies and planning recommendations to the Board
  • Decides or guides courses of action in operations by staff of the company/society
  • Oversees operations of organization
  • Implements plans

Key operational responsibilities:

Financial:

  • Developing sound financial system for the group as well as separately for IEMCS and EMCS Pharma
  • Establishing a strong internal control system
  • Ensuring compliance of rules and regulations of local Gov. Authorities like NBR, Wasa. DESCO, Drug administration, Company register as well as applicable Gov. Rules and regulations like Company Law and Cooperative laws.
  • Preparing financial manual within six months and update it as and when required and ensuring follow the rules and regulations as per manual.
  • Ensuring monthly reconcile of balance sheet items.
  • Provide monthly financial result with analysis to the committee
  • Introducing keep financial records, analysis financial data, prepare financial report by using accounting software.
  • Ensure transparency, integrity for recording financial transactions and safeguarding of resources as well as optimal uses of resources.
  • Establish a sound cash management system
  • Review and provide recommendation for approval of all financial transaction.
  • Preparing annual financial reports and performing annual audit as well as settle tax return with NBR.

Educational Requirements

  • MBA/Masters in Accounting, Finance & Banking, Marketing, Management, Economics having no 3rd class/division in academic records.
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant/Cost and Management Accountant/Chartered Financial Analyst will be given preference.
