Position Description:
IBTCI/ACME is seeking an Agricultural Market System Specialist for an assessment of the status of gender integration in USAID/Bangladesh’s Feed the Future (FTF) activities’ private sector engagement strategies under a market system approach.

This is a short-term consulting opportunity, approximately 40 days’ full-time engagement during early September – October 2018. This position is for a Bangladeshi national, and is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with travel anticipated within Bangladesh.

Responsibilities:
The Agricultural Market System Specialist will:

  • Participate in team meetings, key informant interviews, group meetings, and site visits.
  • S/he also will participate in presenting the report to USAID and other stakeholders and be responsible for addressing pertinent comments provided by USAID/Bangladesh or other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of the assessment methodology.
  • Draft the sections of the report relevant to his/her expertise and role on the team.

Qualifications:
The Agriculture Market System Specialist will:

  • Be a Bangladeshi national with at least eight years of professional experience in the development sector, specifically engaging with private sector firms and/or agribusinesses. 
  • Have a degree in business administration, development studies or a relevant social science discipline, and have demonstrated experience on similar assignments and assessments.
  • Have experience of working with tools and approaches for conducting supply chain/value chain analysis and/or assessments. S/he should have expertise in implementing, analyzing, and synthesizing interviews.
  • The National Consultant must be fluent in Bangla, and should demonstrate a high level of ability in oral and written English.
  • Strong knowledge about Bangladesh’s agricultural market systems (crops and fish) is required.
  • Understanding of gender integration in business plan development, especially in the Bangladesh country context, and knowledge about gender roles in agriculture sectors is desired.
  • Familiarity with USAID regulations and systems including performance monitoring, gender policies and guidance, project management, and reporting is a plus, but not mandatory.
