The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.
Project Profile

Electoral violence is an entrenched practice in Bangladesh driven by the extreme “winner take all” approach of the major parties. The endemic corruption at high places and the prevailing culture of impunity largely foster electoral violence. True democratic values have not also yet taken hold in most of the country.

The SPADE project intends to demonstrate a community-led approach to instill democratic values in Bangladesh, and generate a new, more cooperative societal norm that rejects violence in the political process. This is a two year long project which will be implemented in 58 Upazilas. The heart of this strategy is to build understanding, confidence and trust, among the political parties and the people to foster cooperative efforts to mitigate electoral violence and promote social harmony at the grassroots level.

To achieve its overall goal this project will

  1. Implement the PAVE training program to increase participants’ knowledge of constructive and non-violent ways of citizen engagement for mitigating electoral and political violence; and
  2.  Facilitate the building of a functional network of influential and committed individuals to prevent electoral violence and foster peace-building.
 
Position Profile

This is a Dhaka based senior level management position. However, s/he have to move field frequently. Under the guidance of the Country Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for overall planning, coordinating, communication with different stakeholders, and implementing the project activities according to project proposal, agreement with donor within budget allocation of the project.

Major Duties and responsibilities
  • Manages the day to day operations of project by facilitating professional work process to ensure alignment with the established policies & procedures and in order to high performance standards.
  • Writing and develop similar type of project proposal.
  • Strictly look after the financial management of the project.
  • Lead, supervise and monitor the project staffs/team.
  • Provide necessary support to training team to design and develop training and workshop material/module.
  • Keeps an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects.
  • Develop and implements plans for project teams and provide clear direction and ensure that staff knows what is expected to them.
  • Ensure the projects procedures, the required deliverables, the required standard of quality within the specified constraints of time and cost.
  • Develop and design Advocacy/BCC materials.
  • Maintain close relationship with local political leaders, member of the civil society, and others stakeholders of the project to ensure their support to achieve the project goal.
  • Liaison with donor as and when require, represent the organization and prepare monthly, quarterly and/or as per requirement of donor’s reports of the project.
  • Work closely with M&E specialist to develop and implement M & E tools.
  • Continuously review information and learning from field visit in order to advise the Project Director for strengthen project management.
  • Develop clear guidelines, tools, capacity building modules to support project implementation.
  • Continuously review information and learning from field.
  • Any other work required by Project management.
Educational Qualifications and Language Skills
  • Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Economics, Public Administration, Social Science, or other related disciplines with excellent academic result. English medium background and degree from foreign university will be given preference. Third class in any level need not to apply.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English is must.
Other Qualifications and Experiences
  • Minimum 12 years experiences in top managerial position non-profit organizations as well as running the multi-year social project independently or with minimum supervision. 
  • Experience of project development, writing project proposal and report writing, resource mobilization, staff supervision, strategic leadership and handling of different types of projects.
  • Strong team-building, representational and diplomatic skills and building relationship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, creativity, resourcefulness and flexibility
  • Proven interpersonal and intercultural skills, including flexibility and sensitivity
  • Exceptional transformative leadership skills, building the leadership of others
  • Skills in Microsoft words and excel
  • Sound knowledge of country’s socio-political culture, electoral system, good governance, democracy and social development issues, pluralism, diversity, rising of extremism.
  • Good connection with political parties, civil society, local political leaders, social activist.
  • Clear knowledge on project management, project cycle, and result based management.
