In this context, the bilateral project “Higher Education and Leadership Development for Sustainable Textiles in Bangladesh” (HELD), commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, aims to strengthen the application-oriented competencies of future specialists and managers in the textile industry in sustainable corporate management. The HELD project is part of the GIZ Bangladesh Textile Cluster program “Socio-Ecological Economic Transformation”. The HELD project contains four areas of intervention (“outputs”), which are being implemented with different partners in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB).

Within the scope of the HELD Output 4, the dialogue between the education and private sectors on sustainability in the textile and education sector, especially sector specific issues of women, shall be strengthened. As planned, a cooperation network of higher education and vocational training stakeholders as well as government and industry representatives (“Academia-Industry Nexus”) was established with the aim to organize five network events. Among the five events, three events have been conducted in 2022 and 2023 already. The remaining two network events to be conducted in 2024 aim to delve deeper into the following topics a) “Green jobs” in the textile and related industry and b) “Job matching” for Youth in Bangladesh.

This assignment has the objectives to fulfil the following areas:

The focus of both network events will be on developing specific measures to enhance the collaboration between higher education, TVET, and the private sector with a focus on women empowerment. These events shall align with the overall objective of the HELD project, fostering an academia-industry nexus and facilitating knowledge-sharing among future specialists, managers, and academics in the realm of sustainable corporate management within the textile and related industry.

The objectives are

  1. Facilitate a cohesive academia-industry nexus, fostering a dynamic knowledge-sharing platform among aspiring specialists, managers, and academics within the textile and related industry.
  2. Include the lessons from the last three sessions with valuable further insights (academic proof and/or practice examples) for future direction.
  3. Explore and comprehend the current trends in sustainability and women empowerment issues within the textile and related sectors, aiming to identify strategic pathways for addressing challenges and advancing sustainable practices with a focus on green jobs and job matching.
  4. Identify opportunities for expanding and sustaining the network by involving additional stakeholders, ensuring a broader and more inclusive engagement for future events.
  5. Foster collaborative initiatives for women empowerment in the textile and related industry, addressing gender-specific challenges and promoting inclusivity.
