For the team of our Supplier Qualification Programme, we seek applications from suitable candidates for position of “Senior Advisor - Human and Labour Rights (Social Standards)”.

Contract Duration till: April 30, 2020

A. Responsibilities

The senior advisor / component leader is responsible for

  • independently managing the component 'Human & Labour Rights’ in accordance with the project goals
  • technical management of experts in the component
  • coordination of all activities between project partners
  • providing technical support, professional advice, guidance and capacity building measures to the project partners, i.e. importers and factories
  • recording of and reporting on project interventions/progress and lessons learnt
  • financial planning and budgeting
  • innovation and knowledge management

The component manager/officer responsible for implementation performs the following tasks:

Management responsibility

The component manager is responsible for

  • managing staff in accordance with management principles and guidelines to promote a sense of corporate identity, enable employees to carry out tasks independently and create scope for developing creativity and innovation
  • planning the assignments of and professional development of staff members who report to him/her
  • monitoring and managing the component colleagues, ensuring that they provide cost-effective services
  • carrying out the annual staff assessment and development talk for staff members who report to him/her

Professional advisory services

The component manager

  • monitors the development and implementation of the project plans and activities in close consultation with all stakeholders; this includes regular factory visits
  • identifies (training) needs, develops concepts and strategies, and provides technical input
  • deals with the design, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars and other events related to the project’s area of activity
  • develops and organises quality assurance measures and suggests necessary changes, improvements and initiatives
  • monitors project progress and the activities of the component, reviews reports and documents on the project progress, identifies bottlenecks and recommends alternative options
  • demonstrate proactiveness in achieving the project’s objectives
  • ensures effective completion of all trainings and awareness raising workshops for workers, mid-level management and factory owners
  • attends steering committee reviews and other relevant meetings with stakeholders, keeps minutes and ensures follow-upon all relevant issues
  • contributes to an open, objective and solution oriented communication between project partners

Networking and cooperation

The component manager

  • ensures cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with all stakeholders; cooperates with all individuals in the project environment and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships
  • represents the project at the component level

Knowledge management

The component manager

  • collects and circulates relevant information and disseminates project experiences
  • develops ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures
  • draws up reports and presentation documents
  • formulates appropriate input for various project reports, including annual reports, and contributes to the other reports required by the project

Management and coordination tasks

The component manager

  • is responsible for project planning for the component and develops project concepts and strategies, ensuring timely and effective implementation 
  • coordinates and prioritises relevant project activities
  • manages and monitors the component budget
  • compiles the relevant information for joint activities and assignments

Other duties/additional tasks

The component manager/officer responsible for implementation

  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

C. Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • masters/MSc or doctorate in an area that is related to the project’s objectives, with a focus on the relevant fields

Professional experience

  • 5-7 years’ professional experience, with at least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • Experienced in team leading and building
  • Well versed in local as well as international standards regarding human and labour rights (particularly SA8000, OEKO-TEX STeP)
  • good knowledge of international management and certification systems

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Solid IT skills (MS Office, relevant software)
  • a proven track record in a managerial position; confident attitude working with RMG factory owners/managers; ability to resolve conflicts
  • fluent in both English and Bangla with excellent writing skills in both languages
  • ability to work in an international team and a stressful environment
