The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dhaka has a vacancy in its Cultural Section for a Cultural & Education Officer. This full-time position (38 hours/week) is available as of August 1st 2016. Payment is subject to the Embassy's salary scale.

Cultural & Education Officer

Tasks of the Cultural & Education Officer:

  • Liaise with universities, ministries, government and semi-governmental authorities and private as well as public educational and cultural institutions
  • Help to establish formal university co-operation of German and Bangladeshi universities
  • Organize cultural events and manage the German Embassy’s cultural fund
  • Draft, upload and manage content on cultural / education-related activities of the German Embassy on the Embassy’s website and Facebook page
  • Prepare & conduct info sessions on studying in Germany together with the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service)
  • Prepare & conduct selection processes and interviews for various scholarship schemes
  • Draft reports for the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin on culture and education in Bangladesh
  • Set up & maintain a detailed data base on the overall education system in Bangladesh and individual institutions of secondary and tertiary education
  • Identify suitable candidates for the Visitors‘ Program of the German Federal Government
  • Preparation and handling of official visits to cultural & education-related events / institutions
  • Support representatives of German cultural, religious and education-related organizations in Bangladesh, those settled in the country as well as visitors
  • Support and assist applications for the Fund for Cultural Preservation
  • Support and assist mutual, cultural / education-related projects of the European Member States’ Missions in Bangladesh and Franco-German cultural projects
  • Other tasks as per instruction by the Head of Mission or the Cultural Attaché

Candidates should fulfill the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or comparable undergraduate degree, preferably in a humanities subject; in case no university degree was acquired: H.S.C. or A-Levels
  • Excellent proficiency in English, preferably proven via an internationally recognized certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS)
  • Excellent proficiency in Bengali
  • Knowledge of German: Not compulsory, but would be an asset and compensated financially
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while seeing to a wide range of different tasks
  • Ability to work independently and creatively and to take initiative
  • Strong computer skillset, in particular with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong abilities in interpersonal communication, presenting content, layout / design and report-writing

  • Curriculum vitae (no longer than two A4 pages) with one recent passport size photograph
  • Copies of academic certificates of the highest degree awarded and proof of other qualifications relevant for this position (in particular language proficiency certificates)
  • Proof of earlier employment(s)
  • One recommendation letter no longer than one A4 page
