The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition.  The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children. 

GAIN has developed strong public – private partnership models in order to improve the nutrition status of the country. On the Universal Salt Iodization (USI) program, GAIN closely works with Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (CIDD) project, Ministry of Industries, Micronutrient Initiative “MI”, UNICEF, salt mills and civil society organizations. The core mandate in the program is availability of and access to adequately iodized salt to improve the nutrition level of millions of vulnerable women and children in the country.

Project Manager, Universal Salt Iodisation(USI) Program

To provide leadership and management oversight to the USI project, GAIN is looking for an outstanding Project Manager with a proven track record in successful project implementation and management. Reporting to the Manager – Large Scale Food Fortification the USI Project manager should ensure the successful implementation of the USI partnership project action plan, jointly developed with UNICEF and aligned to the CIDD National USI plan.  The USI Project Manager will focus on the implementation of GAIN’s deliverables within this partnership project.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on program strategy, communications and implementation of all project components including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants. Ensure that the USI Bangladesh work plan and budget.
  • Maintain and develop a good working relationship with UNICEF and MI (the “Tripartite Group”), provide techno-managerial support and leadership for an effective coordination with the group and CIDD project.
  • Support existing CIDD business model and facilitate development of a sustainable business model for USI program  in consultation with the Ministry of Industries, the Ministry of Health, MI and UNICEF.
  • Maintain regular contact with project partners responsible for the implementation and technical assistance and undertake regular supervision visits to ensure the smooth running of the project with clear project deliverables and reporting system. 
  • Initiate national and regional meetings among major players in the salt industry to review equipment, training and technical support needs
  • Ensure ongoing collection of information on salt production, demand of iodized salt, consumption pattern, and salt supply chain management including road movement of salt and other relevant information.
  • Roll out of Rapid Test Kit (RTK) strategy in close collaboration with credible and reputed partners.
  • Finalize and implement the Bangladesh USI monitoring and evaluation (“M&E”) plan and support and ensure completion of end of project survey.
  • Foster contacts and relations with governments, ministries, the employers' and workers' organizations, other value chain and sectorial stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, target groups and donors, and promote opportunities for collaboration towards planning and implementation of program activities. 
  • Liaise with the other agencies counterparts to promote GAIN’s values, increase the project's visibility and facilitate the scaling-up of the project's interventions.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience of which five years at the international level in the field of food fortification/agri-business/ nutrition value chain and private sector development. Demonstrated experience in applying program life cycle management and practical knowledge about Monitoring and Evaluation. Sector specific experience in relation to large scale food fortification would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working with NGOs/development partners working for the development of women and/or working women’s socio economic condition; health and nutrition and education is desirable.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment is critical.

Education

  • Advanced university degree in Business Management/ Economics or a related field in Social Sciences from a premier institute
