We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Adolescent/Youth Specialist, AUAFP Activity based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

About the opportunity:

USAID/Bangladesh seeks to make a five-year award to achieve the purpose of increasing utilization of Family Planning (FP) services through universal health coverage. The Activity will accomplish this result through two specific objectives: 1) strengthening capacity to more effectively train medical providers and community health workers in FP in both the public and private sectors; and 2) focusing and expanding public sector FP information and services to high need groups such as adolescents, youth, newlyweds, and postpartum girls and women.

Position Description:

The Adolescent/Youth Specialist will be responsible for providing technical leadership to address female and male adolescents and youth needs in FP programming, including strengthening community mobilization, increasing the use of appropriate IT and social media to meet FP needs of adolescents and youth, and ensuring that FP training addresses adolescent and youth friendly services (AYFS) concept and criteria. S/he will be expected to be familiar with the literature on AYFS for FP, including the latest evidence and innovative practices, and work with counterparts to ensure that the project takes a strong evidence-based approach. S/he must work in close collaboration with the FP Specialist and the MEL Specialist.

Availability of this position is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360 and its consortium partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in adolescents/youth services across program activities, including technical leadership in FP programming, specifically in addressing female and male adolescents and youth needs.
  • Engage in strengthening community mobilization using appropriate IT and social media to meet FP needs of adolescents and youth
  • Ensure FP training addresses adolescent and youth friendly services (AYFS) concept and criteria.
  • Conduct routine coordination with staff, partners, government and other development partners on-site and in the field.
  • Provide technical expertise to managers, senior officers and other project staff as needed

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or its equivalent in adolescents/youth services, social work, social communications, public health or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in adolescent/youth services in public health projects and/or other areas
  • Proven expertise in effective adolescent/youth FP programming; knowledge of adolescent/youth physical, social and psychological development; knowledge of
    gender behaviors related to FP; achieving adolescent and youth behavior change results
    through use of IT and social media; achieving increased community mobilization and
    stakeholder support for adolescent/youth FP services
  • Demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple counterparts in the public, NGO and private for-profit sectors
  • Experience of work in the region and knowledge on regional perspectives is highly desired
  • Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in Bengali would be preferred.
