The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is inviting applications of qualified and experienced candidates for the following position to be filled under the Project OSRO/BGD/802/NET - SAFE PLUS: Strengthening of Market Linkages and Technical Capacity for Agricultural Groups to promote income generation in Cox`s Bazar . The Incumbent will be recruited as National Project Personnel:

Position: National Consultant (Livelihoods Coordination Officer)

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), the incumbent will support the implementation of projects activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction to FAO’s livelihoods strategies and actions based on strong analysis of market opportunities,
  • Co-facilitate the Livelihoods Working Group along with UN partners and document meetings, follow up actions and decisions,
  • Liaise with government partners from the Department of Livestock Services, Department of Fisheries, Department of Agricultural Extension, and others to ensure harmonization of program activities with government plans and strategies,
  • Provide regular market analysis of key agricultural products and value-chains for Cox’s Bazar District,
  • Regularly analyze the activities of the partners in the Livelihoods Working Group and provide analysis on gaps in coverage, duplications and variance in packages being provided,
  • Provide regular analysis of private sector agricultural partners and their technology for introduction to farmers,
  • Regularly present activities of the sector to stakeholders; donor groups, government partners and Inter-Sectoral Coordination Group (ISCG)
  • Provide technical support to partners on best ways to plant, harvest, and cultivate crops in the challenging agro-ecological zones of Ukhiya and Teknaf,
  • Develop training modules for the master trainers and the beneficiaries for on-farm income generating activities as requested by partners,
  • Develop strategic documents, making presentations and facilitating discussions, as well as responding diplomatically to sensitive issues.
  • Supervising field activities and monitoring field staff.

Academic qualifications /Technical Competencies:

  • Graduate or graduating senior with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture with emphasis on agronomy, crop, soil, weed management, ag- business, or other ag-science course work
  • Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Office software,
  • Good diagnostic and decision making skills,
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate – verbal & written skills in English,
  • Ability to work independently and achieve objectives without close supervision,
  • Desire to serve farmers and others involved in the agriculture industry,
  • Willingness to work as a team member,
  • Desire to remain updated with new agricultural trends and technology,
  • Self-motivation, willingness to learn and good work ethics.

Duty Station: Cox’s Bazar

Duration: 12 Months (with possibility of extension)
