Senior Program Officer
Job Description

Democracy International, Inc. (DI), a U.S. based international organization, seeks an experienced Senior Program Officer for the multi-year Strengthening Political Landscape program (SPL) funded by USAID and UKaid.  The SPL program promotes a broader participation in Bangladesh political parties, especially among women and youth, encourages internal party reform, and strengthens the internal capacity of political parties to compete peacefully and better represent their constituents.

Employment: Full Time

Location: Dhaka with extensive travel around the country.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Program Officer’s major responsibilities include:

  • Supporting overall training programs in partnership with the political parties, to meet program objectives, including planning and coordination;
  • Provide written reporting and analysis on the political and security situation in Dhaka and around the country;
  • Follow up with political parties, program participants, and program staff to ensure program objectives are met;
  • Provide interpretation and translation for expat staff;
  • Develop program materials and provide accurate translation of training materials;
  • Manage logistical and financial arrangements for programs, including budgeting and accounting;
  • Provide management expertise for relevant program teams;
  • Produce timely and accurate program reports in English;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the political parties;
  • Represent DI externally at meetings, workshops, and other events;
  • Provide other duties as directed by the COP and DCOP;

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or higher) in public policy, political science, social science, international relations, or related field;
  • Minimum ten years’ experience successfully managing programs related to training, conflict management, or political and civic organizing;
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Experience with both written and verbal translation;
  • Well organized with an ability develop and follow through on planning, to multi-task, and to meet deadlines;
  • A team player with good interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities, and ability to contribute to a group effort;
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, FrontPage);
