Technical Communications Specialist

About AIP
CNFA implements the five year $15 Million Agro-Inputs Project (AIP) in Bangladesh. The goal of AIP is to increase smallholder production and productivity in order to reduce poverty and improve food security in Bangladesh’s southern delta. Over the next five years, CNFA will deliver training, improved inputs, and related services across 20 southern districts, to a network of 3,000 agro input retailers, serving over 1 million smallholders, impacting more than 5 million individuals, and generating more than $100 million in sales.

Summary:
Work alongside and within a change-oriented Communications Team to convey the AIP/AIRN vision of quality agricultural inputs within the project and to the outside world. In collaboration with the communications team, this function may include internal communications; marketing communications; media relations; public affairs; crisis and reputation management; brand management; and content management.

Reporting to:  Communications Director

Duty station:  Dhaka, with frequent travel to SW Bangladesh

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a clear communications strategy which is consistent and integrated across all aspects of external and internal communications;
  • Be a principal contact for media relations including briefing the CNFA and AIP management for media activity;
  • Work closely with the other members of the project and CNFA Communications teams;
  • Able to understand, research/gather, develop, and disseminate (agriculturally oriented including crops and their inputs e.g. seed, chemicals, and fertilizers)  technical written communications, contribution to publications, marketing materials, websites and donor (USAID) and client (agro-input retailers and farmers) engagement communications;
  • Manage all project support functions to Agricultural Fairs:  Develop and disseminate annual Agricultural Inputs Fair Theme to event management company, supply lists of potential participants from the USAID Feed-the-Future   projects, partner NGOs, and national industry associations, identify and draft invitations and related letters to Guest Speakers and dignitaries, assure all communications and public relations materials are as per USAID and CNFA’s branding and marketing policies;
  • Contribute to strategic counsel to project management and national association leaders.

 Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years` experience in the field of organizational communications preferably within the consulting industry or similar project management company;
  • Able to work as a member of a team, demonstrate creative problem solving, flexibility, results driven, interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent communication and presentational skills: (written, oral, listening, influencing, coaching, strategic communication planning);
  • Experience across media relations, corporate communications, crisis management, public affairs and/or marketing communications;
  • Agronomist or Horticultural Bachelors level degree, possibly with an additional communications qualification/certification; English written and oral fluency and Bangla (native) written and oral competency is required;
  • Excellent word processing (e.g. Microsoft Word), spreadsheet, desktop publishing, Power Point and  other software used in creating manuals, brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and quick reference (answers to commonly asked questions) guides.

  • A tactical thinker in addition to strong delivery skills;
  • Maturity and credibility to support a team communications function providing excellence in all fields of communication;
  • A team player comfortable operating with all members of the AIP and CNFA staff and, as directed, with USAID communications staff;
  • Creative thinker, able to conceive unconventional solutions in support of rapid growth; Culturally sensitive and empathetic; and
  • Energetic and able to perform well under deadline pressure.
