A feasibility study on Solar Energy Source as alternative energy source for the ABLE Workshops in CSISA-MEA project area

Background:

The Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia- Mechanization and Extension Activity (CSISA-MEA), implemented in the Feed the Future zones in Bangladesh, by CIMMYT in partnership with iDE and Georgia Institute of Technology, funded by the USAID. The Activity seeks to transform the means of agricultural production system through mechanization.

CSISA-MEA’s of the objective is to boost up local manufacturing in Bangladesh specially agriculture-based machineries. Now a days Agricultural Based Light Engineering Workshop (ABLEs) are facing difficulties in manufacturing due to regular power outage by the power authority due recent energy crisis in Bangladesh. Due to this outage situation and increasing the electricity price by the authority, ABLEs are tending to consider solar energy as alternative power sources beside the government power supply to run the workshop efficiently, ensure production capacity as planned and also to reduce energy cost.

To that end, CSISA-MEA seeks to hire a professionally skilled expert / company to perform a feasibility assessment of potential workshops to set up solar system as an alternative power source for the workshops.

To that end, CSISA-MEA seeks to hire a professionally skilled expert / company, to perform a feasibility assessment on the Solar Energy Source of potential workshops as alternative energy source for operation and to provide technical assistance & supervision support (if needed) to set up / ensure alternative energy source in the selected workshops in the project area considering environmentally appropriate and energy cost efficiency based on the feasibility report.

Objectives: The major objectives of hiring a contractual company / experts are to:

  • Conduct a rapid feasibility assessment on the Solar Energy Source of potential workshops (07 nos) as alternative energy source for their operations.
    • Field visits potential workshops to assess their suitability to set up Solar Energy Sources as alternative energy sources for their operation with details for technical and cost feasibility analysis specific workshop wise to set up through appropriate cost-effective model (CAPEX, OPEX, EMI or Rental etc.) as alternative energy sources for the operation by selective workshops.
    • Present findings, costing & economic analysis, and recommendations based on the solar energy sources for specific workshops and plan for next stages related consultancy reports to be submitted to CIMMYT.
    • The feasibility study should cover the workshops’ present energy sources, energy costs, alternative / solar energy sources with options based on workshop size, required capacity, costing for set up with economic analysis of viability, savings on energy costs (monthly) through alternative sources, workshop infrastructure suitability for solar energy source set up, appropriate cost effective model (CAPEX, OPEX, EMI or Rental etc.) or financing options (through IDCOL / Banks / NBFI/Companies).
    •
  • Firm must submit a final report combining each workshops wise analysis plan by assessing their suitability to set up Solar Energy Sources as alternative energy sources for their operation with details for technical and cost feasibility analysis.

Proposed Area (s): Total 07 (seven) workshops in project area (Bogura-2, Jessore-2, Faridpur-1 and Cox’s bazar- 2)
