About CHRF
Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF) is a non-profit research organization in Dhaka, Bangladesh, registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau. Founded in 2007 by a multidisciplinary research group, we operate with the core mission to improve child health by facilitating appropriate policy decisions on treatment and prevention of infectious diseases through quality research and advocacy using available resources. We conduct research in four hospitals (Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Dr. MR Khan Shishu hospital, Chittagong Ma-O-Shishu Hospital, and Kumudini Women’s Medical College) and five microbiology laboratories around the country. We collaborate with different international organizations like World Health Organization, Edinburgh University, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), etc.  

We invite application for the position “Project Coordinator” for the project “Determination of gestational age and preterm birth rates in low resource settings using newborn metabolic profiles.” The study will enroll pregnant women from surveillance area and study hospital and collect dried blood spot samples (heel-prick or cord blood) to assess the gestational age. Gestational age estimates can help us estimate the burden of preterm birth and aide in evidence-based development of effective resource management strategies. The study will be conducted at Mirzapur Demographic Surveillance area, and Kumudini Women’s Medical College Hospital, Mirzapur, Tangail. We have been conducted population surveillance here for more than 10 years.

Job location: Mirzapur, Bangladesh

Employment term: Contractual, 1 year (extendable based on funding and performance)

Vacancy: 1

Salary range: BDT 70,000 – 85,000 (depending on the experience and/or qualifications of the candidate)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in protocol development, staff recruitment and implementation of the project
  • Closely monitor the progress of the project activities including enrolment of pregnant women in surveillance area and hospital
  • Arrange and conduct training for project staff (esp research physicians and field staff) and ensure enrolment and data collection are being conducted carefully and ethically
  • Identify gaps for in implementation process, data collection process and resolve things in consultation with investigators and other senior officials
  • Serve as everyday focal point for contact with the sites to assure compliance with the protocols
  • Coordinate and communicate with the clinical, laboratory and data personnel to assure the epidemiologic, clinical and laboratory data are correct and accurately linked
  • Maintain communication with donors for study related issues and update them with progress if needed
  • Analyse data and generate reports as scheduled and needed
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate training for project staff especially for Research Physicians and field staff
  • Identify gaps in implementation process, data collection process and resolve things in consultation with investigators and the other coordinator already in place at CHRF
  • Regularly share the progress with project investigators
  • Arrange and ensure project specific meetings by coordinating with study coordinators and investigators and other relevant staff

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • MBBS degree is essential
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Masters in Public Health from a recognized institution
  • Three years of experience on public health research or project management specially in community and hospital settings will be preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in Bangla and English
  • Computer literacy and data analysis skill are desired
  • Must possess problem solving and management skill
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure with commitment to meet deadlines
  • Must be enthusiastic to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and be willing to take initiatives
