Job Summary:

CARE is one of the world's leading international humanitarian and development organizations, committed to helping people in poor communities improve their lives and alleviate poverty. Founded in 1945, CARE is working across 95 countries to fight global poverty and marginalization. CARE has been active in Bangladesh since 1949 being one of the largest country offices of CARE. CARE works to help people achieve social and economic well-being, while being among the best in their fields. In CARE, we put women and girls at the center of our work because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities. CARE Bangladesh is currently shifting towards a program approach, where it has developed longer-term impact visions to have more sustainable changes in the lives of the extreme poor and marginalized.

Bangladesh has made impressive progress during the MDG period (2000-2015) of improved access to safe water and sanitation. The trend of progress as estimated by Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) for Bangladesh shows that 97% population have gained access to safely managed and basic water services by end of 2015, which was 95% in 2000. In sanitation, 47% gained access to basic services while 22% have access to limited shared services. Still 31% population use unimproved latrine, which was 44% in 2000. Open defecation was reduced from 19% in 2000 to Zero in 2015, which is a great achievement. Though very few people now fetch water from rivers or defecate in fields, the vast majority still live in environments plagued by inadequate WASH that hinder the country’s overall development.
