‘Developing Midwives Project’ (DMP) of BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH) of BRAC University (BRACU) envisions a healthcare system that reaches poor communities in Bangladesh’s remote locations. The vision conceptualises midwife as the key person in lessening maternal and neonatal mortality. Therefore, to develop competent and compassionate midwives, DMP launched ‘Diploma in Midwifery’ programme in 2012 as the country’s first private-sector midwifery education. Initially funded by UK Government and now alongside BRAC, this initiative is assisted by the MPH programme of BRACU. Approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and accredited by Bangladesh Nursing & Midwifery Council (BNMC), BRACU’s midwifery education is being implemented in seven academic sites in the rural and urban locations of six Districts.

Job profile

The person will be responsible for management of the ‘Developing Midwives Education Programme’ run by BRACU, with about 100 students and 10 faculty at Dhaka urban academic site. She will ensure quality implementation of the education programme with particular emphasis on visiting the contents of the modules time to time and support quality of education and teaching by the respective teachers. She will support implementing the academic calendar as well as create an environment through the hostel in-charge for maintaining supportive environment for the students.

The position will supervise all activities and deliverables of finance and admin officer, hostel in-charge and support staff. The PM will also be responsible to organize project related advocacy and sensitization meetings, and participate in local and national level meetings, workshops etc. as necessary. She will maintain strong liaison with relevant stakeholders in co-ordination with the HUB.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Nursing and Midwifery/ Bachelors in other social and/ or science subjects/ MBBS/ MBA with MPH.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in implementation of Maternal and Newborn health and /or reproductive health programs as a coordinator or manager

  • Should have effective leadership and management skill.
  • Must have knowledge and in-depth understanding on gender.
  • Demonstrated ability in team work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Should have computer skills specially in MS Word, excel, power point.
  • Good command in English and Bengali will be added value.
