Head of Audit, BRAC Uganda Bank Limited

Job Location: Uganda

Major Responsibilities:

The objective of this position is to provide an independent assurance on the effectiveness, efficiency and reliability of the institution’s strategic, financial, accounting, business, and legal operations. It also ensures that the institution has a robust risk management system, internal controls complies with the laws, regulations, policies and procedures. The position holder will also conduct follow up audits to monitor the adequacy of management interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate audit charter, Internal Audit annual work plans, Internal Audit policies and procedure manuals.
  • Managing and coordinating the BRAC Uganda Bank Limited Audit Function and ensure there is effective communication between the Audit and all other stakeholders.
  • Preparing and submitting Internal Audit reports to Board and management.
  • Evaluating and reviewing Financial, Accounting and Operational performance of the institution and all the departments, functions and advice on improvements
  • Carrying out special Audit assignments.
  • Evaluating risk management processes, internal controls and recommend areas of improvements
  • Review all institutional policies and advise on areas of improvements.
  • Carrying out inspection, performance audits and value for money assessments.
  • Obtain analyses, evaluate accounting documentation and reliability of the reports.
  • Lead, guide , supervise, motivate, discipline, train, build capacity and manage performance of all staff in the audit department
  • Engage in continuous knowledge development regarding the sector rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.

Person Specifications:

  • Proven working experience as Internal Auditor/ Audit manager
  • Proven knowledge of auditing standards, procedures, laws, rules, regulations and best practice.
  • Proven knowledge on financial sector regulations and industry trends
  • Extensive computer skills including MS Office, advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • High attention to detail, excellent analytical and planning skills and sound independent judgment
  • Knowledge of Accounting, various core banking, HR and Payroll applications
  • Ability to work in a multidimensional/multicultural setting
  • Good communication skills

Person Specifications:

  • Graduation/Master or equivalent degree major in Finance or Accounts or relevant fields with professional chartered accountant degree/ACCA or CPA.

Experience Requirements:

  • 8 to 10 years’ of experience in audit operations in regulated Financial Institutions preferably Credit Institutions (Tier 2) and above of which at least 5 years at the level of manager.
