Short Film Competition

BLAST, a national legal aid and services organization,  and the Centre for Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (CGSRHR) at the James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University are sponsoring a short film competition for young people (16-30) in Bangladesh on the theme ‘My Life, My Rights’ with a focus on rights relating to consent and choice during and before marriage; in personal and professional relationships, expression and their limits, and issues of representation and communication, including on social media. These short films are intended to focus the attention of the public on current issues and concerns regarding the right to personal liberty, and freedom of expression and the threats resulting from gender-based violence or discrimination, in particular those affecting young people.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Overall management and coordination of the Short Film Competition includes:

  • Preparing content about the competition, its goals and outcomes, and a promotional plan (for print, digital and social media).
  • Proposing technical criteria for the selection of short films.
  • Inviting and managing the online submission/DVD submission of the films.
  • Ensuring a focal point of contact for the purposes of queries and coordination of the competition.
  • Communications with and arrangement of sessions of the jury board
  • Conducting an official launch of the short film competition, ensuring media (print and electronic coverage).
  • Ensuring all necessary equipment and arrangement for further editing of shortlisted films.
  • Organising the award giving ceremony, including selecting venue, inviting guests, ensuring promotion and media coverage.
  • Ensuring promotion in accordance with the 16 days of activism when the award ceremony will be held
  • Addressing issues of copyright with regards to the short films submitted in the competition.

The competition is to be launched by 17 September and the award giving ceremony is to be held any time from 25 November – 10 December 2017.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in event management, especially organising competitions/award ceremonies.
  • Engagement in advocacy or communications on social issues.
  • Previous experience in organising short film competitions.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Interested individuals/firms/organizations are requested to submit a technical proposal (max 2 pages, in English or Bangla, detailing process for holding the competition and ceremony, the management and communications plan, and highlighting issues of gender and diversity, experience, references of two of the most recent clients) and a financial proposal (including deductions for VAT and tax) with a cover letter to BLAST.

  • Applications must reach us by or before 23 August 2017 by 5 pm.
  • All applicants will receive a confirmation of receipt. Shortlisted candidates will be notified of their selection by 26 August 2017 and may be requested to make a presentation on 27 or 28 August 2017
  • The final candidate will be notified by 29 August 2017.
