Background: Red Cross-Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No.26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971, is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people and over the last 47 years, has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.

Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the position of “Community Mobiliser (Relief)”. Both male and female candidates can apply.

Age : 36 years on 31st January, 2019 (Age limit will be relaxed in case of potential candidate)
Duty station : Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar

Purpose:

The Community Mobiliser (WASH) is a field-based staff who will be engaged on the day to day mobilisation, communication and implementation of relief activities at field level including the assessment, identification, selection of relief program beneficiaries. He/ she will ensure that the various relief activities in targeted camps and host communities are successfully planned and implemented as per agreed workplan. He/she will work directly with the Relief Officers to ensure targeted groups/ families/households are well identified and mobilised ensuring their participation in the program activities. The Community Mobilizers should maintain a record of all community volunteers participating on a daily basis and reports on them to the Relief Officer for proper record keeping.

Educational Qualification:

  • Graduate from university or college
  • Excellent community mobilization and communication skills
  • Training in community mobilization, community engagement and accountability is an advantage.
  • Ability to understand write and speak fluently in English Bangla, Burmese/ Rohingya languages
  • Ability to work or stay closest to the field of operation
  • Previous experience working for the RC/RC is an advantage
  • A team player, flexible and innovative
  • Knowledgeable on the use of computer (Word and Excel)

Duties and responsibilities

Overall responsibilities:

  • Mobilization of community volunteers needed for assessment and validation of programme beneficiaries.
  • Management of community volunteers in implementation of planned activities at the field level.
  • Management of community volunteer records including daily attendance sheets.
  • Spearhead the conduct of RC/RC orientation sessions in target camps and host communities.
  • Support Relief Officers in the management and inventory of supplies and materials at warehouses and other designated storage facilities.
  • Organize programme beneficiaries at distribution centers to ensure peaceful and organized distribution process.

Specific tasks:

  • Support volunteers in the mobilization of target households for relief activities.
  • Organize community assembly, RC/RC orientation in targeted camps and host communities.
  • Support volunteers to prepare daily relief activity reports.
  • Organize schedule for assessment, identification of programme beneficiaries.
  • Conduct post distribution monitoring together with community volunteers.
  • Coordinate and prepare distribution sites to ensure peaceful and organized distribution process.
  • Compile and submit weekly activity reports and submit to Field Officers for consolidation.
  • Carry out any other task as may be assigned by the Relief Officers.
  • Support Relief Officers in data analysis and reporting.
  • Keep and maintain programme documents/files/distribution records, etc. and ensure availability of information, when needed.

Personal Specifications

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 months of field experience needed and working with displaced people from Myanmar will  be preferable.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Good Computer skills
  • Organizing capacity, coordination and planning skills
  • Sound knowledge in subject area
  • Fluent in English and Bangla.

Personal qualities:

  • Adhere to the 7 fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement
  • Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct of RCRC Movement
  • Honest and high level of integrity.
