Red Cross-Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971, is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable populace and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.

Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the position of Health Expert under Population Movement Operation at Cox’s Bazar:

Position : 1(one)
Duration of contract : Up to December 2019 (with possibility to extend upon satisfactory performance and availability of fund)
Salary : Negotiable
Age : 45 years maximum(age limit will be relaxed in case of potential candidate)
Duty station : Cox’s Bazar with frequent field visit within the district

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Health Expert will be responsible for ensuring effective and efficient implementation of health and Psychosocial Support component of Population Movement Operation (PMO) of BDRCS in Cox's Bazar. ln close coordination with the other technical sectors, the position will ensure access to medical and psychosocial support to target communities with focus on Gender Based violence and Child Projection issues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to implement health and Psychosocial Support related activities of PMO Support and work closely with WASH expert for effective delivery of health education and medical advice.
  • Responsible for the epidemiological analysis and appropriate responses in case of diseases out breaks.
  • Work closely with the project management team in Cox's Bazar to ensure standard service delivery to the beneficiaries in the camps.
  • Conducted training on Psychological Support for RC volunteers on how to identify signs of possible abuse affecting the beneficiaries at the center and encountered through outreach and awareness raising activities
  • Support/give training to other local actors and community members on the identification and referral of CP and SGBV cases and principles on working with children and survivors.
  • Provide support to the Red Crescent Youth/community volunteers on how to address sensitive issues in the community
  • Participate regularly in the health and other relevant meetings at the makeshift settlement level for better coordination and improving quality of the program
  • Liaise with UN agencies, INGOs and local government authorities as appropriate for designing and implementation of all technical activities.
  • Establish a Health lnformation System (HlS) and ensure proper follow up of the system for timely and authentic data collection, analysis and reporting of health & nutrition interventions and adopt appropriate measures, if necessary, in coordination with BDRCS Health Department.
  • Ensure standard Drugs management System are in place as per BDRCS standard and ensure timely supplies of medicines are done in a professional way. Promote rational use of drugs in the makeshift settlements.
  • Follow up of the referral system
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to the camps and referral institutions
  • Ensure standard protocols and guidelines are being followed in all health related activities of PMO.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, interim report as appropriate to the needs of the program and donor requirements
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Educational requirements: M.B.B.S degree from any Govt. institution or Govt. approved institution with B.M.D.C Registration. Candidate with masters of public health (MPH) is preferred with additional post graduate allowances.
  • 5 year experience to work in the health sector
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and crisis situation.
  • Good computer and presentation skills.
  • Good communication in English and Bangla

  • Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct
  • Assist the organization on occasion, in times of national, international, local emergencies or major disasters
