Background: Red Cross-Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No.26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971, is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people  and over the last 47 years, has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.

Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the position of Program Coordinator(WASH expert)

Job Title : Program Coordinator
Contract period : December 2018, Possibility of extension subject to fund avaiability

Age : 36 years (Age limit will be relaxed in case of potential candidate)
Salary : Salary Tk= 60,000.00 per month (Consolidated)
Location : CD Department, NHQ, BDRCS
Reportable to : Director, CD Department, BDRCS

Overall responsibility:


  • Overall coordination and monitoring of WASH/DM Project in CHT activities in Khagrachari, Bandarban (and Rangamati)
  • Coordinate preparation of annual budget and plan of action.
  • Ensure that all planned activities are implemented in time and in a proper way. Analyze the problem, if any, bring to the attention of BDRCS/ICRC
  • Be a technical focal for capacity development of Project team as well as various stakeholders on PHAST, CHAST, PASSA and disaster management interventions like VCA, contingency planning
  • Coordinate preparation of monthly forecast, compile the monthly financial report and cash request for the WASH/DM Project.
  • Plan and coordinate field mission and joint field mission in coordination with stakeholders
  • Liaise with INGOs/NGOs, government ministries and departments, as appropriate and required in relations to the implementation of the WASH/DM Project.
  • Prepare implementation guidelines as required.
  • Prepare periodic reports and program updates for the BDRCS management, ICRC.
  • Directly supervise the Disaster Management Organizer, WASH engineer.
  • Prepare periodic performance appraisal for all staffs under his/her line management.
  • Provide onsite implementation support for all sectors and back stopping support in case of long absence of Wash officer.
  • Coordinate and inform respective unit office, ULO, PIC for any problems, feedback and progress


  • Assist the Director at the BDRCS NHQ in overall management of WASH/DM Project
  • Effectively coordinate with Units and other staffs as appropriate.
  • Always work towards promotion of RCRC principles and humanitarian values in the communities.
  • Any other duties as instructed by the Director/authority (if possible some additional duties requested by ICRC)

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field (social sciences, development, economics etc) with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 8 years relevant experience in coordinating and managing WASH/DM Project and multi-sectoral community based programs.
  • Preference will be given to the candidates having experience in both WASH and Disaster management field
  • Person with additional experience on project planning, designing, evaluation and monitoring as well as working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team will be given a priority.
Skills & abilities:
  • Analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Sound skill and knowledge of reporting
  • Good facilitation skill for conducting range of trainings
  • First-hand experience in financial management
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex tasks.
  • Fluent in English and Bangla.
  • Have adequate user level knowledge on various computer applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.
