Position: Research Fellow (Remote Sensing and GIS)

Established in 1986, the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) is a leading research and policy institute in the non-government sector of Bangladesh. It is independent, non-profit and specializes in policy analysis, action research and project implementation for sustainable development at local, national, regional and global levels. The overall aim of BCAS is to provide guidance and practical solutions to promote sustainable development, eradicate poverty, improve access of the poor to resources and ensure social justice. BCAS tests dynamic ideas, develops models and gives practical solutions to problems in all areas that fall under the broad themes. These ideas have been replicated by NGOs, government departments, private sectors and UN agencies.

We are seeking applications from qualified Bangladeshi Nationals to fill the functions Research Fellow (Remote Sensing and GIS). Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of BCAS GIS, Remote Sensing and Modeling Division the Research Fellow (Remote Sensing and GIS) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conduct and coordinate Research/Studies/Evaluation focusing natural resource management, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
  • Advance processing of remote sensing data including but not limited to Synthetic Aperture Radar, Terrestrial Laser Scanning; Photogrammetry; Imaging and Non-imaging Sensors; Optical and Multispectral Remote Sensing; Hyper-spectral Remote Sensing; and Microwave Remote Sensing.
  • Management of geospatial data which includes identifying data requirement, cost estimation, collection, storing and other necessary tasks. This also includes all necessary tasks including travelling, budgeting, arranging consultation workshop etc.
  • Preparation of project reports, conception paper, project proposal for grant and scientific publications for peer reviewed journal.
  • Capacity building support to BCAS local staffs and partners for GPS survey, biophysical survey, GIS data handling and database management or such assignments come along.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Masters/PhD in agriculture, environmental science, forestry, geography, geo-informatics, geology urban and regional planning or relevant field;
  • Excellent skill in advance remote sensing and geospatial analysis;
  • 5 - 10 years working experience in the field of GIS and remote Sensing;
  • Proven record of research and publication in peer reviewed reputed journals;

  • Strong team player and demonstrate initiative, possess self-organization skills and have a results-oriented approach

Duty Station:
The duty station will be BCAS Office at Dhaka, Bangladesh; travel in the different project implementing areas may be required.

Salary:
The Research Fellow (Remote Sensing and GIS) will get satisfactory salary based on his/her practical skills and experience according to the policy of BCAS.
