Job Title : Junior Assistant Producer (Radio)

Contract  : Fixed term until 31 December 2018 initially, with extension subject to funding

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health and resilience.

We’re now looking for a talented and skillful Junior Assistant Radio Producer to help deliver training and mentoring to our radio partners in Cox’s Bazar. Working within a small team, the Junior Assistant Radio Producers will help create radio programmes aimed at both Rohingya people and the host community. All the contents will be made in Chittagonian dialect or Rohingya language. The ideal candidate will have experience of audio-based productions and products.

Overall purpose:

Reporting to the Radio Producer, this position will assist in devising and developing radio programmes and help prepare and deliver training to media-sector partners. S/he will spend significant time working with and supporting staff and volunteers from radio station partners in Cox’s Bazar. S/he will support the producer and assistant producer to prepare detailed workplans with feasible timelines for every stage of the production process including research and pre-production, audio recording and post-production. S/he will work within the production team to support the delivery of outputs on time, to budget and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and delivery of training for media-sector partners.
  • Support and mentor staff and volunteers from radio station partners.
  • Assist with the production of high quality radio programmes and public service announcements.
  • Support script writing for allocated packages and programmes.
  • Assist in recording, mixing and delivering packages and complete programmes for radio broadcast.
  • Work within the audio production work flow, ensuring that production tasks take place on time and to the appropriate level of quality.
  • Professionally operate a range of audio equipment to the highest BBC standards.
  • Be aware of BBC editorial principles and refer upwards where necessary to ensure that all relevant editorial, legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met.
  • Assist in ensuring production safety, including involvement in preparation of risk assessments and ensuring safety measures are upheld by all crews.
  • Work within the production team and alongside administration, finance and procurement staff to ensure all purchasing, hiring and contracting are completed in line with BBC Media Action policies and procedures.

Any other duties commensurate with the post as allocated by the line manager

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.
