Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) is a centre of excellence with a vision of Bangladesh free from acid violence, where burn victims, especially women and children, live with dignity.

It is an independent, non-government, non-profit organization, set up as a Trust and registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh. It is the only specialized NGO in Bangladesh working to prevent acid and burn violence; empower survivors, especially women and children; and campaign for prevention and elimination of this violence. ASF works with an integrated approach, using a holistic (bio-psycho-social) multi-stakeholder approach backed by research, experience and evidence.

ASF is looking for a qualified candidate for the following position:

Officer-Survivors Support Services (Notification and referrel services)

The Officer-Survivors Support Services (SSS) is responsible for identify and document the basic data of each new acid attack, providing standard support to survivors, resource mobilization, case management, capacity development, networking and formation of survivor’s forum for prevention & better inclusion.

The position is based in Dhaka with field visit in required cases. S/he will report to Sr. coordinator-SSS. The major role and responsibilities includes:

1. To notify acid attack and refer to ASF within 24-hour

  • Track acid attacks over hotline phone and other sources (print or electronic media, words of mouth);
  • To contact PNGOs/Thematic Partners for informing about the incident/victim following a fact finding;
  • Follow up with legal team of ASF in taking legal action against attack through partner or in person if legal action is not been taken;
  • Inform nurse station and medical duty doctor about the referral of notified acid victim;
  • Disseminate information on the victim among ASF relevant staff and other stakeholders through email or sms over hotline;
  • Put an specific ID on the notified victim in ASF MIS and provide to medical
  • Open a file by filling up a hotline fact sheet containing victims information (e.g. name/address, primary treatment, water pouring, legal action);
  • Hand over the file to the concerned Officer-SSS and maintain a register book

2. To response immediately in times of sensitive acid/ burn violence occurrence in wherever occurs in country;

  • Identify sensitive cases based on set criteria and bring it in to the account of line manager
  • Prepare a immediate response plan in consultation with line manager and relevant officer-SSS
  • Convey immediate response plan to media and communication coordinator and ASF executive secretary for seeking necessary support from relevant stakeholders. 
  • Carry out immediate response visit in violence spot according to plan and conduct intensive fact finding action on the spot by observing surrounding and interviewing relevant persons;
  • To keep local media, law enforcement agency local government administration in contacting for any other help to make the response fruitful (i.e. organizing press conference, Forming Human chain, staging rally, holding bazaar/yard/community meeting and other form of response as decided);
  • Dispatch a short briefing pitch paper on emergency action to the office;
  • Follow up the incident and victim

3. Report writing and documentation for unit/ASF in uploading into website

  • Assist Media Coordinator in developing communication/promotional materials Develop news reports of various programs organized by ASF, its partners and associates for VOICE and uploading website;
  • Articulate case stories of adopted survivors in human interest style;
  • Record of survivors phone calls and convey the information the concerned person (medical person, Officer-SSS, Media/legal Coordinator, and Admin);
  • To keep contact with local/national media professionals; 
  • To develop information snippet on the incident for website uploading;

4. Others:

  • Attend in medical morning round with medical persons on daily basis and disseminate information among concerned officers on admitted victims. Make a introduction to the new victim with concerned SSS officer; 
  • Visit DMCH and other public hospitals with burn units, if any acid /other burn victim would be notified;
  • Inform the patient and their families about ASF and its services.
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor that may be within the scope of the position to ensure the effective delivery and development of the project.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters in any discipline of Social Science, Journalism, Anthropology or relevant subject from reputed institute of home and abroad.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

1- 2 years experience in relevant field preferably in dealing violence against women and children/ Gender based violence related issues in national or international NGO will be preferred.

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Integrity, transparency, proactive stance and team building capacity. 
  • knowledge on violence against women, social work theories, practices and procedures
  • knowledge of case management, case conferencing and investigation and intervention theories and practices
  • Gender sensitive and Values oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill in English,
  • Basic IT knowledge

Age: Not exceeding 35 years

Salary and other benefits: BDT 31,772 per month with other admissible benefits as per Human Resource Policy of the organization
