Purpose of the position:
We are seeking to appoint a motivated researcher to help design and conduct studies in tobacco control. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institution programme, the appointed Research Fellows will oversee the day to day management of research in Bangladesh. The successful candidates will benefit from a programme of mentoring and training. This role is initially for fixed-term from April 2018 to March, 2020.

Under this programme the successful candidate will be paired with at least one senior academic from the University of York, UK and they will provide ongoing mentoring and peer to peer support to the appointed Research Fellow to further develop their skills. The successful candidate will also benefit from access to a number of professional development opportunities (international training, conference attendance etc) which there is provision to fund through the programme.
The main duties of the post-holder are as follows:
- Take advice and assist the Principal Investigator/Executive Director on technical aspects of research projects.
- Participate in research tools design, data collection and data analysis;
- Coordinate with Field Investigators within the research team and effectively delegate responsibility on all relevant aspects of the project, to ensure accurate, timely and cost effective execution of the research;
- Analyze quantitative data with capacity to data cleaning, data analysis, tabulation and interpretation (Data Management)
- Assist in developing training manuals, guidelines and tools
- Visit project areas and monitor progress of project activities as and when required
- Assist in designing and implementing training and educational activitiesDraft and submit research ethics applications.
- Draft project documents, funder reports, presentations for conferences/meetings, and papers for submission to publication in peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with the co-investigators.
- Support the organisation of meetings with key stakeholders to engage them in the formulation of research and dissemination of findings.
- Involvement in programme team meetings and workshops will also form part of this role.
- Contribute to the development of additional linked research proposals

Person Specification
Essentials
- A postgraduate qualification in Economics/health economics/public health/epidemiology/bio-statistics with minimum CGPA 3 (on scale of 4). Candidate having PhD (or close to completing your PhD) are preferred
- Be fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in applied health sector research
- Strong quantitative data analysis skills;
- Can establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization (particularly with the government and academic sectors);
- Strong ability to work on own initiative; and as an effective team member;
- Problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and ability to work under pressure
- Up to 50% time to travel in field on project work
Desirables
- Demonstrable interest or experience of working in research relevant to public health, in particular tobacco control or economics.
- Experience of working with government departments and/or NGOs.
- Experience or interest in the dissemination of research and the presentation of results in an academic, public or policy setting.
- Ability to manage a research project from inception to completion.
- Demonstrable experience of producing high quality reports for publication in either an academic or policy environment.
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary academic teams.
- Experience of working on multi-institution projects.
Salary Range: Negotiable as per qualification and experience
