Title: Fitness Center Attendant

Job Objective: 

Ensure that all fitness areas are a safe place to train; monitor access of students, faculty, staff and guests; enforce cardio and weight room safety and etiquette policies; and assist new users in a brief Weight Room introduction. Maintain the Fitness center in a clean and hygienic manner by performing necessary cleaning and housekeeping activities.

Educational Education: Bachelors in related field
Experience: 3 - 5 years of experience in a similar position
Certification Requirement Current Adult CPR, AED and Standard First Aid  (American Red Cross preferred).
Certification as a Certified Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor from a nationally or international recognized certifying body or organization.
Employment Arrangement: Local Support Staff - Taka Scale – 12 – month
Overtime Provision - No
Reports to and is evaluated by: Reports to and is supervised and evaluated by the Athletic Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome, greet and provide assistance to Weight Room users.
  • Make sure all users sign in and out of the room in the Sign-In Book.
  • Conduct equipment orientations on an as-needed basis.
  • First responder to any medical emergencies that occur.
  • Provide safe and effective instruction of all cardiovascular and weight training equipment.
  • Enforce and educate the members and/or guests on policies and procedures of the fitness areas, as posted on the walls around the room.
  • Offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise program and/or use of equipment.
  • Ensure that there is not misuse or abuse of machines; monitor the room to anticipate any potential medical emergencies.
  • Maintain and clean exercise equipment; clean, polish, and/or dust machines as needed.
  • Responsible for all opening and closing duties (lights, AC, cleaning, tidying up).
  • Remove used towels and replace with clean ones.
  • Ensure the music is acceptable and at a reasonable volume.
  • Communicate to the Activities Office the condition on the equipment; inform the department of any machine which has malfunctioned or broken down.
  • Performs all daily cleaning requirements to ensure a sanitary and hygienic environment.

Knowledge / Skills Required for the Job:

  • An understanding of strength training and cardiovascular exercise.
  • Ability to use and operate a variety of strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to assist individuals in developing a safe and effective exercise program.
  • Good communication skills, ability to work with people.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Experience in a similar environment preferred.
