Vacancy Announcement: Head of Finance & Operations

ADD International is a UK based NGO. Together, we promote the work of rights-based disability organisations run by disabled people in some of the poorest countries of Africa and Asia. Most of our staff is based in overseas programmes, supported by the UK office of ADD International. Together, we’re bringing lasting social and policy change to promote disabled people’s rights and alleviate their social exclusion and poverty.

ADD International’s aims are:

  1. To offer broad support to the disability movement.
  2. To support disability rights organisations to become self-sustaining, effective, democratic and representative membership organisations, actively promoting the rights of all disabled adults and children for full inclusion in society. 
  3. To work with disability rights organisations to influence policy makers and development organisations to include the rights and needs of disabled people in all their work and to allocate resources for this.

ADD International works in Bangladesh since 1994 to promote disability rights, justice and social inclusion through capacity building of Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) and influencing policies. 

ADD has played a pioneering role in Bangladesh, in influencing the national policies, implementing UNCRPD, passing the Disability Rights and Protection Act 2013 and allocating resources in the national budget. We also implements thematic programmes on livelihood, economic empowerment, accessible water and sanitation, community based mental health, voting rights and civic education of person with disabilities.   

Responsibilities of the position:

This post will be part of the Senior Management Team of the Country Office & will report directly to the Country Director & will also liaise and work with the ADD Head of Finance & the wider global finance team. The successful candidate will have experience & also be able to communicate & negotiate with all official bodies such as the NGOAB & donors & be capable of representing ADD to these or other bodies as necessary.

You will be responsible for a finance team of 5 people & an administration team & ensuring that the finance function operates at a very effective & efficient level. The right candidate will also have responsibility for the smooth running of the HR & IT functions within the office. You will have demonstrable experience at getting the best out of your team & providing the necessary support to effect this & working with competing priorities to meet all deadlines.

You will be expected to contribute to the development of the ADD Country Strategic Plan and work closely and collaboratively to assist ADD in delivering its objectives and also deputize for the Country Director or other colleagues as required.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

Essential:

  • A recognized accounting qualification (M.Com/CA/MBA: major in Accounting/Finance) with 8-10 years progressive relevant work experience in senior management position and ability to undertake leadership role.
  • Customer service: commitment to delivering excellent customer care and service.
  • Good computer skills: Windows, superior Excel skills, Power Point, Internet and significant previous experience with accounts software, experience with SUN or PSF would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of the role of international development.  Ability to manage competing deadlines.  Training in managing finances in the not-for profit sector.
  • Experience working with international NGOs: 
  • Proven capacity to negotiate and maintain relationships with donors & government offices. Able to travel occasionally and spend time away from base and home for up to three to four weeks per year. 

Compensation:
