IT Specialist

ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a IT Specialist for the USAID-funded Feed the Future Bangladesh Rice and Diversified Crops Activity (RDC) Activity. The activity is a five-year primary mechanism to support productivity and market systems development under USAID/Bangladesh’s FTF strategy, with the objective of improved food security through systemic changes that increase rural incomes and – via increased incomes, including women’s income, and incentivized crop diversification – to improved nutrition. USAID/Bangladesh’s new Rice and Diversified Crops Activity (RDC) activity will foster growth and reduce poverty through improving the competitiveness, inclusiveness, and resilience of rice and other selected crops in the FTF Zone of Influence (ZOI) to the benefit of large numbers of men and women and their families in rural households, farms, and market systems. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support to user in software, hardware, and network maintenance computer and IT system.
  • Maintains, patches, and upgrades servers, laptops and desktops. Configures servers, firewall, switches, and other networked equipment.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates recordkeeping, mail distribution, telephone operations, and other office support services.
  • Maintains inventory of IT supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares IT reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Performs tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment installation/de-installation, and software installation.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant government, donor, and ACDI/VOCA policies.
  • Safeguards and ensures the integrity of computer systems. Ensures data security. Performs regular backups of data, restores, and disaster recovery. Ensures up-to-date virus protection.
  • Provides customer support and problem resolution.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves technical computer-related problems. Responds to problems reported by the user community.
  • Diagnoses and resolves end-user network or local printer problems, PC hardware problems and e-mail, Internet, remote access, and local-area network access problems.
  • Supports and trains end-users in a wide range of hardware and software applications.
  • Maintains record of data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities.
  • Travels to project sites to configure and install project local area networks, provide training to local users, and trouble-shoot issues.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains web-based applications including websites and intranet. Continuously improves the project's website and intranet; adds new functionality and improves user ability to maintain without technical support.
  • Performs other duties and undertakes other projects as may be assigned from time to time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of:
    • desktop operating systems, various software applications and basic hardware for PCs;
    • principles and theories of network systems and management;
    • server configuration, firewall and switch configuration,
    • Internet technologies and products.
  • Ability to identify and diagnose network and server issues, independently configure and deploy local area networks in field offices.
  • Proven ability to deliver customer support in a help desk environment. Able to identify, troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical computer-related problems.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Basic understanding of electrical safety procedures.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and sound judgment. Proven willingness to make timely and sound decisions based on accurate judgment.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations and follow established guidelines and instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to travel to field offices regularly.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related field. A+, MCP or equivalent IT professional certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a relevant position including minimum of three years of experience supporting users through a help desk ticket management solution in a multi-site organization using various technologies.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
