Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Information Management Officer for DRC’s operation in Bangladesh, based in Cox’s Bazar.
DRC have been registered in Bangladesh since 2013. In 2017, in response to the Rohingya influx, DRC are preparing to launch an integrated programme of support to the government in site management, shelter/NFI and protection. As a key part of this, DRC are opening up a main office in Cox’s Bazar (and a support cell in Dhaka), for which we need a motivated and capable Information Management Officer to support our programme. This role will focus on support to the protection programme and be managed by the Protection Manager.

About the job

The Information Management/Database Officer is responsible for data and information management for DRC’s protection activities implemented in Cox’s Bazar district.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Information Management Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Design/develop, test, maintain, support and improve the database and information management systems for the protection programme at Cox’s Bazar level
  • Support the design, set up and roll out of information management systems for DRC, to maintain and organise activity data
  • Manage database of confidential information, inputting data related to special needs requests and responses 
  • Ensure data consistency and integrity across DRC protection projects at Cox’s Bazar level
  • Coordinate closely with protection staff to ensure their data collection and management needs are met
  • Obtain, compile and analyze data on the program indicators, and disseminate in appropriate formats for improving the programmatic decision making and planning process
  • Produce statistical analysis and reports on project data on request.
  • Support in reporting and project tracking
  • Ensure there is provision for data security (including strict data handling and confidentiality protocols), weekly backup and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).
  • Assist with project field monitoring, as required
  • Enhance and build capacities of DRC staff in terms of database use and maintenance, data quality, and basic analysis through on-going support and trainings
  • Any other duties as agreed with the Protection Manager and/or Team Leader


About you

To be successful in this role you must have university degree in a relevant field, experience in IT and database management systems.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Essential Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in IT and database management systems (MySQL, MS ACCESS and MSSQL)
  • Strong background/experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Demonstrated skills in PC troubleshooting, software and hardware support, networking, data backup, creating data entry forms and generating database reports
  • Experience in visualization techniques using Tableau software and web driven visualization methods
  • Experience in developing database and web application using Java and PostGres
  • Advanced Kobo Toolbox skills
  • Server maintenance, IT and networking skills
  • Fluent Bengali. Good knowledge of English (spoken and written) is also required. 

Preferred Experiences 

  • Experience in developing large scale database and web application.
  • Experience in data analysis using SPSS and Stata
  • Experience in INGO  
  • Chittagong dialect speaker, or knowledge of Rohingya language

Contract length: 6 months with strong possibility of extension
